BEST AND WORST COMIC-BASED FILMS

(INCLUDED)
These are lists of my favorite and least favorite comic-based films. All of them have been listed in alphabetical order. I have included only films originating from comic books, comic strips, graphic novels, illustrated magazines or fully illustrated pulp magazine stories.

(EXCLUDED)
1a) I've excluded non-illustrated novels, non-illustrated novellas, non-illustrated novelettes and non-illustrated pulp magazine stories. 1b) Films based on books containing illustrations at the beginning of their chapters, or books with illustrations sporadically placed throughout them have been omitted as well. 2) I've excluded illustrated children's books. 3) I've also excluded film-based comics turned into movies. 4a) And I've excluded TV programs and televised animated series. (Unless they are issued as full length films. "Films Only")

The purpose of this post is to expand upon my list of recommendations over time. While giving a head's up for films that should be avoided (IMO). Also to open a dialogue for others to build their own lists of recommendations. I haven't seen every film in history. So your input would be appreciated.

***Dr Mordrid (aka Dr Strange) is a film loosely adapted from Dr Strange. It was originally intended to be a full length Dr Strange film. However producer Charles Band failed to obtain the rights before his option expired. So not to have the project become a total loss. The film's name was changed, it was rewritten and original characters were created for the film instead. Here is a lesser known fact about the film. When this movie was first released on video. The video's cover was originally titled Dr Strange. Videos baring this cover were later pulled from the shelves due to copyright infringement. The movie sucks and is not per se a comic-based film. However I felt it was worth mentioning for fans of Dr Strange and collectors of movie memorabilia.***

Here is my list for films I either really liked or loved.

American Splendor is interesting, but it's Paul Giamatti, and he's always amusing.

The scary part of that list is the amount of hours you've spent on a lot of movies you hated!

Cheers,

Rostron

I also wouldn't put "Fantastic Four" one or two in the worst list, allot of people say that its very kiddy and campy but have you guys read the comics? They ain't less campy, I think for what it is, they got characters, story, costumes and Origins pretty well told.

and I didn't know "The Mask" was a comic book film? or Kill Bill or Men in Black or Adams Family (a cartoon no?) and besides, Men in Black 2 kinda sucked, it was the 1st turned around.

Besides that, good list and I might be wrong with those titles, I really didn't know if they were comics originally.

They won't get Punisher right until they make him out to be a no holds barred blood thirsty homicidal maniac with vengeance. They have yet to accomplish that IMO. The rest of those films I thought just plain sucked. But the one I absolutely hated was Spawn. When they cheesed it down to get a PG-13 rating above and beyond the fact that it was crap. It was a big let down. Because I was a big fan of Spawn, but I digress. Oddly enough you mentioned Blade. Of which I was never a fan of his comics or Tomb of Dracula, but when the film came out. I loved it. Luckily Stan Lee and Ari Arad didn't pull any punches and went for a R Rating.

As for the Hulk. I felt it had a 10 times more compelling story than The Incredible Hulk. I did enjoy The Incredible Hulk more than Hulk though. I didn't care for the CGI Hulk Dogs as well or the CGI as a collective whole. But the acting in the Hulk was 10 times better than The Incredible Hulk as well. Nick Nolte did an excellent job in that film. I enjoyed it.

We won't agree on every film, but being you have only chosen 9 grievances from these lists. No doubt your more along the lines of my tastes in cinema than most people. We just happen to disagree with on these films in question.

I didn't care for the Fantastic Four or part 2.

Kill Bill was a magna called Shurayukihime better known as Lady Snowblood in english. The Mask was a comic. The Addams Family was originally a comic strip. Men In Black is a damn good comic. Check MIB out one day. It's really good.

38 ) I watched "The Princes Blade" and it is a far cry from Kill Bill. From what I took from it. A lot of the movie must be lost in translation unless your an avid reader of the current magna. I take it that Kill Bill was based more along the lines of Shurayukihime's (aka Lady Snowblood) original story. However I having not seen the Lady Snowblood films or read the comics. I really can't determine this. For the time being, I'll remain hopeful that the Lady Snowblood films will be better than this crap. Because it sucked!

47 ) I finally broke down and watched "Speed Racer". It's colorful to say the least. It wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I can't say I hated it, but I didn't like it either. I can see where small children could enjoy the film. However it just didn't suit my tastes.

I watched "Road to Perdition" last night. It's a good movie. It was a very far step away from the roles Tom Hanks has portrayed in the past. I liked it. If your a fan of old gangster movies or old detective comics. I think you'll really enjoy this film.

X2: X-Men United
Wonder Woman (animated)

Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Hulk vs Wolverine
Hulk vs Thor
Ghost Rider
Daredevil (Director's cut)
V for Vendetta

Hulk Vs. Thor is a travesty. Hulk killing Thor = Bull****!

Where did you see Green Lantern: First Flight? I've been waiting ages for it to be released.

yeahh, I actually thought that movie was pretty slow pasted too, and then it got to the fight and it had its really cool moments buut they weakened Thor up, his a Freakin God, he only uses Thunder like once, they should of made it more Epic with Thor REALLY giving it to him and Hulk REALLY getting mad PLUS, that whole side plot sucked I found, I found it boring watching Hulk fight al those other monsters, it was just blaa :s

I didn't care for the Fantastic Four or part 2.

Kill Bill was a magna called Shurayukihime better known as Lady Snowblood in english. The Mask was a comic. The Addams Family was originally a comic strip. Men In Black is a damn good comic. Check MIB out one day. It's really good.

thats pretty cool, I had no idea, I'll check out that MIB comic. and I thought all along that "The Mask" was an Original movie, no idea it was based off of a comic :s

and I respect that you don't care for "Fantastic Four" but just out of curiosity, where you ever a fan of the comics?

and whats wrong with V For Vendetta ? I thought that it followed the graphic novel quite well? and acting was good? Visual affects were really good. good script. did you like the graphic Novel?

and I also thought "Superman Doomsday" was the best Superman Animated movie yet, I mean, nothing beat it yet, its even better then most "real-Action" Superman movies.

It was good, except the way they drew Superman with the extra lines on his face, it made him look old.

Aside from a few words here and there, I have no idea what you are talking about. Lady Snowblood? Princess Blade? Nope, you lost me.

My Bottom 2 worst:

We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. -Tyler Durden, "Fight Club"
