March 6, 2005 — The Pacifier, the family comedy starring Vin Diesel, was the #1 film at the weekend box office, earning an estimated $30.2 million which was better than expected. Be Cool, the sequel to the 1995 hit Get Shorty and starring John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Danny DeVito, and "The Rock", fell short of studio expectations, earning an estimated $23.5 million in ticket sales versus the high $20 million that the distributor, MGM, had hoped for.
Will Smith's Hitch continues doing well, coming in at #3 while earning an estimated $12.5 million. That brings its four-week total to $138 million.
Diary of a Mad Black Woman dropped from the previous weekend's top spot to #4 with $12 million. Million Dollar Baby, the Big Oscar Winner with awards including Best Picture and Best Actress for star Hilary Swank, saw a jump in ticket sales hopping up one spot to #5 with $8.5 million. Unfortunately, another big Oscar winner The Aviator dropped out of the top ten, falling to 11th with $2.3 million.
