No one's posted this yet, so i took the honor...hmmm...if done right....wait...it's fox lol. They officially announced this 2 days after the big opening of Wolverine. Money, money, money, money....MONEY!
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fresh off the muscular box-office performance of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," one of the film's characters is headed for a movie of his own. 20th Century Fox is developing a spin-off featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds. In "Deadpool," Reynolds will reprise the "merc with a mouth," known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall. It is understood that the character would regain the ability to mouth off, after having suffered a setback in "Wolverine." Deadpool also was disfigured in the current film, but it's unclear how much the studio would want to mess with Reynolds' handsome mug in the new feature. Fox considered a "Deadpool" spin-off early in "Wolverine's" development process, and cast Reynolds with that possibility in mind.
Yeah eventually this world will slap you in the face and you'll realize what you really needed

There is nobody talking about it because there is not going to be a Deadpool movie. Thats not Deadpool therefor there will not be a Deadpool movie.
Instead we are getting some random superhero movie with the title "Deadpool" Oh snap!! This thread just got served

It definitely has the potential to go the same way as the Catwoman movie. Nevertheless, I'm hopefull. I certainly agree that the character we got in this movie was not Deadpool. The guy at the opening of the film had the potential to develop into a proper Deadpool, but the silent guy with the laser beam eyes wasn't even close.
That said, the writers did leave some wiggle room in there. Doctor Hines warned Stryker that Deadpool wasn't finished yet. This could be an excuse for the genetic treatments not to be permanent. Personally, I can see Deadpool casually mentioning something along the lines of "Ya know, I used to be able to shoot lasers from my eyes!" or something to that effect at an appropriately funny moment.
Near as I can tell, the main reason that Deadpool was so mishandled was that the writers were too lazy/unimaginitive/lackin g in sense of humor to write the character properly. They couldn't come up with enough quality dialogue to last him through the entire fight scene with Wolvie & Sabretooth, so they inserted a line at the beginning of the film about Stryker wanting to take his mouth away, and then went ahead and did it to him. This gave them an excuse to be lazy. A Deadpool solo film would have a writing team who's more comedy oriented, which Wolverine Origins was obviously not. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. |
