Before I tell ya what I thought of the film, I'm going to get something off my chest.....
I am a WOLVERINE fan, read his comics before some of you were born - but - will not get into a d**k-waving contest over it. You think you're the bigger fan because you feel this movie was an injustice to your 'sensibilities', so be it. And although I didn't actually see the work print, having to read all the posts here pretty much told me what to expect anyway.
Was this movie flawed? Yes. I was a bit disappointed with accuracy, but considering they were cramming over 100 years into this movie...I expected them to leave a lot out/change things around.
Gambit...no Creole accent, brief red eye, not flamboyant enough in the right ways. They can fix that in his movie.
Deadpool...liked him early, the rest, *shrug* It's Wolvie's movie...sorry, I don't care. It'll get fixed in his solo movie.
Stryker: Danny Houston did a great job as the slime-ball Colonel
Victor Creed: Liev really captured that lovable psychopath Sabretooth. I would've rather they left the fact they're brothers hinted at instead of how it was handled. (Marvel once hinted that Victor was Logan's father)
Wolverine: Once again Hugh nailed it....expected nothing less from him. It was awesome they finally showed that Logan has always struggled with his inner beast. Heard people say he wouldn't cry...that's bulls***. He's cried when Silver Fox died, shed a tear over Mariko not marrying him, and ultimately when he killed her to spare her suffering a hideous death. The 'weakness' against Victor early on also followed the comics - when Logan confronted Victor over killing Silver Fox he was weak, Victor defeated him easily.
I enjoyed the action of Logan and Victor pounding the hell out of each other, and wished there was more action between him and Remy.
Yes it was flawed, but I enjoyed it, and would see it for the 3rd time in a heartbeat.
Ps: glad it's doing well, looks like a Japan or Madripoor sequel in the future eh?

really this is what i feel
being that the weapon x story line in the comics is my favorite wolverine story line of all time, I was annoyed at how they altered that to a pg-13 film.
And now this I'm not sure of, but wasn't it said that Wolverine's mutation is the casue for his memory loss? Isn't said that if his brain suffers trama or something, it will heal over? And when Weapon X happened, didn't his mind just heal over the ****ed up stuff that happened?
I'm not gonna lie, I have NOT read every comic, but I own a few of his big stories. I have his Japan story, the weapon x story, THE END story, ORIGIN story and the final battle with Sabertooth. I have read up on there first meeting, I want to own it SOOOO badly though.
Besides all that, I'm a huge Wolverine fan. Not like Alien, Predator where I'm a sucker for anything with that title, Wolverine is more to me.
The Weapon X story is a horror tale. A man who gets captured gets ripped open and forced to become a killing machine. Who remembers the creepy ass panal of Logan's skull with the spikes on it, just ****ing wigged me out. And how he's all like "What have you done to me", the voice in my head was just scary. I don't like how they took his purpose of being weapon X and turnning it into a love-revenge story.
For real, they switched Deadpool's origin with Wolverines. Wolverine went though it to do something to help himself out and kill Creed.
Deadpool was captured and turnned into a weapon and controlled.
Really I think Wolverine and Sabertooth should have been the only ones, and bring in Professor Thorton, and Hines and Cornelious(i don't know how to spell haha) But I know they had to keep it to Stryker and what not, well they could have said that Wolverien was still going to be used as a weapon and Creed and himself were going at it to see who was the better fighter and Weapon X would have proved Logan to be stronger.
Now all in all, I liked a few scenes. I thought the batle between Creed, Logan and Deadpool was actually kick ass, and I loved the openning credits, and I loved the Silverfox death leading up to the pretty cool/short bar scene battle.
I don't know, becasue Weapon X is my favorite, I don't like how they messed with that. I mean how come Batman's origin got respected?

I agree with your sentiments completely. And I am very excited for the Japan/madripoor sequel potential! And as for the haters, I'm not even going to try and debate with them, because in order to have a true debate, one first has to acknowledge that the opposing side has a valid point. And a valid point is something that they most definitely do NOT have. They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing..................... Oh, there they go

characters.
2. That's no excuse for screwing things up.
80 Million dollar paycheck.....
Wish I could screw things up that well.
Because when it's all said and done my friend, it's not about paying homage to your favorite comic book hero- it's about producing a product that sells... and sell it did. I know people that are really into the comics and I respect that.. but the majority of the viewing public "don't know jack". I actually overheard a patron in the theater make a comment when he saw Sabretooth " I think he's some kinda wolf-man"....
There are a few characters that I had to "Google" when I got home, but the last time I read comic books regularly.... they cost a dime. Every genre stretches the truth and distorts reality and physics all in the name of entertainment... Sci fi, fantasy and "Action movies" are the worst offenders. It's all about arousing emotions from your audience...... and... getting them to buy tickets.
Your argument holds no water.
Yet I've been arguing with morons like you my whole life.
The comic books have maintained a fanbase for decades.
Not to mention the fanbase has grown since comic book movies have become big.
Bottom line:
These movies SHOULD be made first and foremost for the FANS, and because the fans have loved them for years (because the material is damn good), the general audience will love it too.
Comic books have a negative stigma. EVEN NOW.
It's not earned.
Translate what's on the paper properly and these studios could take an 80 Million opening and turn it into a 120 Million opening.
Or more importantly, take the 80 Million opening that will drop DRASTICALLY by next week and maintain a higher overall paycheck.
But no, the studios want to continue to insult the fans and the movie-going public by dumbing down the material.
And morons like you defend it.
Congrats.
Hear Hear!!
I am sick and effin tired of bad X-Men Films. Just so much wasted potential. Wolverine was plain out rot ur brain GARBAGE. It fell back on more cliches than As the World Turns.
"I love you"- last dying words. *Dramatic faint to the floor*
"Nooooo!!!!!" Screaming to the world!
"I would kill you, but that would make us just as bad as you!" Stryker you big Meanie!!! He was bad...but yeah let's not kill him...
Wil I Am in his big screen debut...in a beloved x-men character's film...Why not just bring Fergie and the rest of the Peas and recast X-men:First Class!
But of course it'll make money...And that's all that matters, right?? I'm a big fan of comic books and the X-Men but who cares if the film is flaming toilet filler as long as my favorite franchise makes a dime or two...Right??? It's just an alternate reality...an alternate reality where good writing, character development, and atleast a halfway engaging story line are thrown out the window for endless cameos and butchering of character after character. Oh well what's moaning about on the internet gunna do??? idk but a good online rant just soothes the soul so there yu go.
Hated this movie! Two Circles and a Square! Hated IT! Yeah eventually this world will slap you in the face and you'll realize what you really needed

Personally, I thought Hugh did NOT nail it. This was a wimpy, weepy, pathetic Wolverine. Hugh did pretty good as Wolvie in X-Men and MOST of X-Men 2, but it just went downhill from there.
And while I liked some of the fighting between Wolverine and Sabretooth, it was all too brief and mind-numbingly bloodless.
As for all those things they "can fix" later on:
1. I doubt there will be a later for any of those characters.
2. That's no excuse for screwing things up.
here is how i see it.
these are his early days of suffering.
he had creed with him, throughout the war years, so did not have to be as HARD.
now that bond is broken.
So now, from here you see him becoming the REAL BAD A**. when he trust no one and knows no family.
I thought it was good.
was it the way I would have done it?
Hell NO!!
my opinion is, they should just take the comics and make the movies, right from the stories.
But, they won't, so I look at each one and decide, based on the reality they have created, did it fit? Was it good? Should there be another?
I answer Maybe, Yes and Yes.
I am still Hoping to see him battle Hulk or Wendigo.
Probably won't happen.
Especially since Jackman has said his Wolvie days are very limited
Enjoy it while it last

actually he said he would continue on as long as people liked him in that role, and considering all the ooos and ahhhs i heard in the theater when Hugh was in the buff, i think this will last on those people alone Corporal of the Canadian Forces

Nightwing said: Kell weapons expert said: yes it is true that the movie took comic book history and peed on it but it is a prequel to a movie not a comic, it is loosely based off the comic book not totally, remember movies are made by more people than just a director, screen writter and the actors there is many factors that these movies are made, production companies want this to make money and they do studies to which will make the most money, like someone has mentioned these movies are not just for the wolverine fans, they are for the general public who probably doesnt know beans about Wolverine and his history but they know the movies
Amen! If you make movies just for fans (like Watchmen & it why it doesn't made a lot like some expected), it won't be that successful. Sometime you just have to make some change for the general audiences. Not all of 'em like everything from the comics.
Exactly. Like Paramount has done for Star Trek, to make it way more appealing to the general audience. If Star Trek wasn't making money anymore then it would be finished and dead for good. I would be very sad if it wasn't anymore because I love Star Trek and in some ways it changed my life, inspired me, made me be a good person besides my family and friends and made me believe there is hope for a blighter future and that we will someday be able to travel beyond our planet and solar system and find other life out there and to boldly go where no one has gone before.
100% Star Trek and Superman fan.
