| How excited (or not) I am to see this movie... |
|
| I saw 'Brokeback Mountain' today finally. My friends and I agreed that it was a slow film and there was alot of dead space--at times I felt like I was watching the 'The Bear.' However, the movie was dead on as far as what homosexuals endure, and I enjoyed it's honesty. In fact, of all the gay films I have seen, this one tells it like it is. I love reading these reviews by idiots who attack what they don't understand. Unless you've been through it yourself, who the hell are you to pass judgement? Gene Shalit calls Jack a 'sexual predator' and he seems to be on a long list of individuals to pigeon-hole homosexuals as selfish opportunists, when in fact Jack and Ennis did the only possible thing that they could do in such an oppressed situation. Their love had to be hidden because they lived in a world full of people like honest13, and they constantly had to tip-toe around for their own safety. Trying to have a normal consenting relationship in a society of norms that were enforced by physical violence is next to impossible. Although I have never had any bad experiences since I have been out, I know a few people who have'nt been as lucky. Its vicious and homophobes will never fully understand the imbalance and hypocrisy that takes place. So yeah, in short, kudos to Jake and Heath for making a film that, if nothing more, opened a few eyes and hopefully paved a cornerstone for many more films to come. |
