According to ComingSoon, Matt Damon will replace Leonardo DiCaprio in Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd, and Morgan Creek is negotiating a deal to handle the film's foreign rights.
Written by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump), the story follows James Wilson, a Yale graduate recruited as one of the founders of the CIA. The character is said to be based on the legendarily shrewd but paranoid counterintelligence chief James Jesus Angleton. The story spans Wilson's 40-year career through the Cold War and details the emotional toll it takes on the man and his family.
Variety says that Universal Pictures remains onboard to distribute the film in North America. If all deals close, the film could keep its March 7 start date. De Niro serves as the film's producer as well as director and star.
