Jay Hernandez Joins the Cast

SUBMITTED BY Scooby

February 3, 2004 — Jay Hernandez, who can currently be seen in Torque, has joined the cast of Friday Night Lights.

Hernandez plays Brian Chavez, a defensive tackle on a football team in a gridiron-obsessed West Texas town. A straight-A student, Chavez is the "smart" one on the team. Hernandez joins a football squad that includes Lucas Black, Derek Luke and Lee Thompson Young. Billy Bob Thornton plays their coach.

just wanted to let you all interested in this movie that my sister is going to be an extra on this movie! She is a junior at Travis High School, where the film is being filmed, and a lot of students were selected to be extras. She is having a blast on set. They have to go to wardrobe and makeup to get into that '80's look. She has to wear that "Boof" hair do where the front poofs out ! She is so excited that she's thinking about going into acting. She has met Billy Bob Thorton who she described is very approachable and very encouraging. He mentioned something about liking the way she flicked her hair or something in the background, he's just willing so willing to help everyone out. She met Derek Luke and Lee Thompson Young, and she says they are totally down to earth and playful (and cute she says.. ). I think she originally thought Ron Howard was going to direct the movie, but now says it's going to be Peter Burke? Not sure, but I can't wait to see this flick. Football is king in Texas so I'm ready for a great grid-iron flick, and I also can't wait to see my sister in the background !
