Those of you who bought MGM Home Entertainment's Amityville four-disc box set may have noticed that a full-blown trailer for The Woods accompanies the Amityville Confidential disc! It follows a trailer for the Amityville Horror remake. Normally I just skip past most previews on a DVD; therein lies the reason I didn't notice any of the Woods goodness that's been sitting on my shelf for a few weeks now.
What's the trailer like? Like May, it's a slow burn. We're introduced to red-headed actress Agnes Bruckner who's dropped off at an isolated all-girls boarding school. Her classmates - all brunettes and blondes - treat her immediately with disdain save for a few misfits. There are a few glimpses of headmistress Patricia Clarkson, a shot of Agnes mysteriously holding a pencil upright on her desk - without using her hands - and, by the end, creeping vines causing lots of chaos. Amidst the rapid cutting there's also a shot of Bruce Campbell being attacked in his car. Hmmm. What made the most impression on me was the look of the film. Bruckner's fiery color is a radiant contrast to the production and wardrobe designs' earthy tones. The Woods was photographed by John Leonetti, who has a few Tales from the Crypt episodes under his belt as well as Child's Play 3 and most recently Honey and The Scorpion King. My excitement level for the flick is climbing...
Has this trailer gone theatrical? Not sure, so feel free to let me know if it has. Once it goes online I'll let you know!
