Allow me to describe a sort of "Twilight Zone" experience of mine... Shortly after reading this incredible novel, I was loaned a collection of DVDs by my brother-in-law including "Signs" and "Unbreakable". Having already been blown away by "The Sixth Sense" I was quickly converted as an M. Night Shyamalan fanatical follower. This wonderful novel still haunting me, I wondered, "What if Shyamalan directed 'Life of Pi'?" After all, it ends with a Night-like twist. (Or is it a twist?) And the fact that the protagonist is a little boy from India would make it all the more familiar territory, wouldn't it? Then I dug a little deeper into this mysterious director and found that not only was he originally from India, specifically he was born in Pondicherry, the very same city where Pi and his family run their ill-fated zoo. A mere coincidence? Or is this dharma -- M. Night Shyamalan's life purpose? Read the book. Today. And you'll wonder as well.
