The film itself was great and Harry Gregson-Williams' score was fascinating... just the parts he wrote though. There were two songs that were used in the film Kingdom of Heaven that were from two other films.

1.) The Death of the King
When the king who has the mask on dies, a song titled Vide Cor Meum played during that scene. That song played during the film Hannibal when Hannibal cut his own hand off. It was written by Hans Zimmer.

2.) The Surrender of Jerusalem
When Balian goes out to Saladin after the wall has been breached, a song called Family Feud plays during that scene. That song played during the film Blade II when the vampire kills his father right before he and Blade fight. It was written by Marco Beltrami.

Is this illegal? I know Hannibal was directed by Ridley Scott who also directed Kingdom of Heaven but does that give him the right to use music from his previous films in his current films. I'm unsure about the use of Marco Beltrami's score for Blade II that was directed by Guillermo Del Tero. I don't see how those two director relate to each other. Tis' a mystery now.

when i read the title "Disapointed in Harry Greeson-Williams" i thought "id mention how he used other songs in the film"...because i looked up the IMDB crew section for the film..and i quickly went past "Un-Original Music"..im like "wtf".

a huge movie like this..wtf..lol

other then that...i liked the score..it didnt feel like it had to much time put into it but it didnt over shadow the film itself like some scores.

i personally think that Man on Fire score was tied for best last year...tied with Passion of the Christ

It's even worse than I thought.

1.) Balian Rouses the Troops
Right before the actual siege begins, Balian speaks to the entire city of Jerusalem and delivers a heroic speech. During that scene, music was used from the 13th Warrior which was written by Jerry Goldsmith.

2.) Ambushed by Templairs
When Balian is attacked by those three templairs, music from the Crow which was written by Graeme Revell is used during that scene.

What's going on Harry Gregson-Williams?

But it's his job. He wrote the score for Man on Fire which was fairly 140 minutes.

Plus, Kingdom of Heaven was longer. I think Harry just got lazy and used other music from other people. But I never expected this from him. Maybe there's some radical explanation for this but we're just going to have to wait on that,

and what i was saying about the "if i was asked to write a score" ect

that means me...what some of these film composers do is just amazing..i know its there job..but John Williams after all these years has still got it and its originality

That can't be accurate, unless the music from those other films was thematically very similar. That I could believe.

no..100% sure they used un-original score.

it does happen a fare bit but not with films this big.

1000000% sure

did you hear the story of Troy?

Gabriel Yared did a score for the film but it was turned down. Wolfgang did a test screening of the film and wanted to use the score in it. The score was nowhere near complete and it was edited into the film in a day (24 hours). The test screening went bad and the score was thrownout. Gabriel said that in 1 day, a score he put his heart into for a year, was turned into trash.

How bad would that be. I listerned to the score on Gabriels site and it was amazing.

The test screening was 2 months before the films release and they got Horner in to write a score in 1 week and record it in 2.

Horners score was amazingly terrible...there was 1 peice in the film..and it was just recycled and recyled and recycled.

;istern to the song on the KOH soundtrack called 'Coronation' and i dare you to tell me that Harry is a bad composer

Listern to 'The End' and 'Creasy Dies' from the Man On Fire soundtrack. 'The End' in my favourite movie score peice from last year. Amazing. The Passion of the Christ was the only soundtrack that was a tad better.

even Man on Fire had un-original score. I believe it used some music from Changing Lanes (Samuel L Jackson film)

Personally, I didn't like his score all that much. It lacked a central theme to give it power, like Gladiator's score.

I did notice the use of other music though.
