The last great war epic was Gladiator in 2000, which you would class as brilliant.

Since then there have been a lot of other rip-offs that are good with CGI and battles but crap everywhere else. This wasnt one of them. Although the film lacked in a lot of area's is was still a kick ass film to see with your girl friend (or boy friend).

REVIEW:
The film opens with the beryl of Blooms wife, on a deserted hill top with only 3 people present (shovel men) because she committed suicide she was not pardoned for a decent funeral.

From up the mountain road comes a bunch of knights (Liam Neeson and his men). They are in search of Liams lost son. Upon arriving at a small village, they meet a black smith (Bloom) who Neeson instantly recognizes as his son.

They set out on a journey to Jerusalem where King Edward is in reign and an evil army general (a Christian) controls the Jewish army.

Bloom instantly falls for the generals wife (Eva Green) who is sister of King Edward. Edward quickly notices the corruption and evil in the general but has no way to get ride of him but to ask Bloom to marry his sister so they he can hang the general. The plans dont go through.

An Arab army is getting closer. Edward dies and the general takes the role of King and instants sends his entire army to ambush the Arabs, a move that would end with a loss.

Bloom is the last hope for Jerusalem as he has to take on the Arabs himself.

THOUGHTS:
In-between, there are a lot of little battle thrown in and a hell of a big story to face. A 9/10 for this one which is the second best this year (Crash at #1).

Edward Norton fans will be upset. He plays a king with leprosy and we dont even get to see his face.

The war scenes rock and shock the hell out of you and the outcome will amaze you.

The film won't be controversial. Its no Passion of the Christ. The enemy was 200,000 Arabs. There were about 20 Christians in the film, all of which were bastards but the film wasnt a war against then.

I didnt get why the Jews and the Arabs couldnt be friends. The film played the Arabs out as very nice piece, extremely religious and gracious.

Thewlis is an amazing actor and deserved a better fate and bigger role.
