October 16, 2003 — The governor of Texas, Gov. Rick Perry, is playing -- big stretch -- the governor of Texas in a bit role for "Cheer Up", starring Tommy Lee Jones.
Tuesday, production trucks lined up outside the white antebellum mansion where Mr. Perry pretended to be the governor for the cameras in a place where, any other day, he actually is the governor.
"He has three or four lines in the movie," Ms. Walt said. "As governor, he agrees to call out the Texas Rangers to help protect these witnesses to a murder."
Mr. Jones, who won an Academy Award for his role in The Fugitive, was at the mansion on Tuesday for the filming.
The UT campus in Austin also is being used for scenes. The University of Texas clock tower, which normally is illuminated in orange when there's a UT victory, was in full orange glow recently to evaluate lighting levels for the director.
