MTV talked to John Leguizamo who said his character, the sloth Sid, will sing in Ice Age 2: The Meltdown.

"I get to sing in this one," Leguizamo said. "I sing a couple of rock classics in my inimitable lisp." He couldn't reveal yet which songs, "I can't say yet until they clear it."

Leguizamo added that the cause of his lyrical revelations in the sequel will have something to do with a newfound love. "I've got a lispy girlfriend, [voiced by] Drea de Matteo."

Haha! I can't wait to see that! Sid's my favorite character.

For those who don't know me (which means for most of you), I have to tell you I'm the galaxy's biggest Gollum fan! If anyone else thinks he's cute, please write to me so I can see I'm not the only one and show my friends that I'm not totally crazy...

There was a whole commercial dedicated to that with the judges from American Idol...mildly amusing.

John Leguizamo, who reprises the voice role of Sid the Sloth in the upcoming animated sequel Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, told SCI FI Wire that he lobbied successfully to add a big musical number. In one of the sequel's funniest and most memorable sequences, vultures fly over Sid and the other heroes and sing "Food, Glorious Food."

"I told them I wanted to sing. I don't care that I can't sing, but I lobbied hard for a song, because I thought that a big animated movie like this should have some music, some songs," Leguizamo said. He admitted that his slurry sloth voice for Sid didn't lend itself well to singing, but he was happy that the director, Carlos Saldahna, listened to his input.

The musical number takes a song from the Oscar-winning movie Oliver! and gives it to the carrion-eating birds as they surround Sid, the mammoths and the saber-toothed tiger Diego, who are struggling for survival. The vultures taunt the heroes while dancing in a grand-scale musical reminiscent of the "Be Our Guest" number from Beauty and the Beast.

"John Powell [the conductor] did a marvelous job doing this big set-piece number with a Cab Calloway style to it, and it is pretty funny," Leguizamo said. "All through this sequel, Sid is trying to get some respect and earn some power in the tribe and get some respect for the group, so this was [my] way to push for something like that, and I'm glad that it worked so brilliantly. I am a big animation fan, after all, and I know what works, and I know you have to have a big musical number."

The movie contains other music, including Harry Nilsson's "One," Jerome Kern's "The Way You Look Tonight," Stephen Stills' "For What It's Worth" and the traditional children's song "If You're Happy and You Know It."

Ice Age 2 brings back Ray Romano and Denis Leary as voice characters and adds Josh Peck, Seann William Scott and Queen Latifah. Latifah was not asked to do music, but she said she would have done so if asked. "I don't know why they didn't ask me," she said. "They probably thought it would have cost millions more if they did, but I would have done a song." Ice Age: The Meltdown hits theaters on March 31.

He really doesn't sing that much, it's more like he sings those songs as jokes at times. But it was funny.
