Pirates Flag Tops International Box Office

SUBMITTED BY Kit-Kat

September 25, 2006 — According to Frank Segers: " Concluding three months of domination at the international boxoffice, the Walt Disney Co.'s "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" remains firmly No. 1 overseas with a weekend take of an estimated $7.6 million from 4,387 screens in 36 territories. Typical of a generally sluggish weekend, "Dead Man's Chest's" tally dropped nearly 60% from last stanza's take. Even so, it still made off with enough to snatch the top spot for the 11th time in 12 weekends. The weekend's biggest new wrinkle is the surge to the No. 2 position by United International Pictures/Paramount-Intermedia's "World Trade Center," which broadened its international exposure from one to 11 markets for an estimated $6.1 million from 1,125 screens. The early overseas boxoffice total for Oliver Stone's Sept. 11 drama stands at $8.1 million thanks largely to a No. 1 finish for the weekend in France, where it grossed an estimated $2.6 million from 415 screens.
