August 28, 2006 — Frank Segers reports ""Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" remained the No. 1 film internationally for the weekend, grossing an estimated $17.8 million from 7,387 screens in 48 territories, marking the eighth consecutive weekend that the Walt Disney Co. title has been on top. The seafaring sequel's international gross total now stands at $554.7 million, with an overall global tally of $962.3 million. Buena Vista International, which releases Disney titles, expects the title to surpass within a week the global gross of 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" ($976.5 million), which would make "Dead Man's Chest" the third-biggest worldwide boxoffice smash of all time.
