August 14, 2006 — According to Frank Segers "In a quiet summer stanza internationally, reigning boxoffice champ "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" dominated for the sixth consecutive weekend, pillaging an estimated $44 million from about 8,500 screens in 48 markets. The Walt Disney Co. smash has achieved an overseas boxoffice total to date of $463 million and $855 million worldwide, jumping it nine notches on the industry's all-time hit list. "Dead Man's Chest" now ranks at No. 12 overall, supplanting last year's "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," which snared $850 million globally. Buena Vista International, which distributes Disney titles, projects that "Dead Man's Chest" will overtake within a week 2003's "Finding Nemo" as Disney's most popular title ever. "Nemo," which ranks No. 11 all time, grossed $866 million worldwide, of which $525 million was tallied overseas. " |
