She was definately falling for him. I am sort of like you only the first 45 min. are what bored me. Once the movie picks up it is excellent. I can't wait for POTC3!

I think he wants to kill Jack. But hey if I had the chance I would make out with Knightely (I mean Swann). She is hot as hell.

Pretty sure he went back for Elizabeth, because if memory serves correctly, didn't he open the compass before deciding to turn back? And they made it pretty obvious, even though they never said it out loud, that the compass was divided between two things: the key/chest and Elizabeth.

And the key definitely wasn't on the Pearl.

*long defening scream* I went to the midnight showing of the movie!!! At first, the ending made me very, very, infuriated. I stormed out of the theater and threw a tantrum right in the parking lot! How could they do that! They killed Jack, and I didn't even get to cry because of the emotional rollar coaster I was already riding. I was still angry at Elizabeth kissing Jack, then had to switch to utter shock when she decided to kill him, and then I had to laugh at how Jack looked at the Krakken (i know i didn't spell that right, i suck). I would be fine if they had given me a chance to be sad and mourn his loss, but they didn't!!

And to top it all off, Jack finally does the right thing, and gets killed for it! So then they set up the third movie by having stupid head Barbossa-face show up! I don't care if Jack is dead and rotting, he would NOT want to be saved by Barbossa! Barbossa robbed him of time he could have spent with that magnificant ship.

But enough anger. . .I was laughing so hard, I was squeaking at the theatre!
Yes. . .I squeak when I laugh too hard. I loved the crew reactions on both occasions, 1. the leaving behind of Jack's hat and 2. the rum?! It was most definately a work of genius. I especially enjoyed every minuet of Jack acting like a three year old!

But alas, I must make a slightly negative comment about the clothes. . .bare with me. Was I the ONLY one in the UNIVERSE that noticed that, scene by scene Jack's clothes went from dirty to clean, and also that his hair looked astonishingly fake? I weep for my poor observant eyes, for I would liked to have not noticed, at least not on the first viewing.
I'm going to see it again tonight. Yes, I AM shameless. . .

Yeah, I just saw it today, and I have to agree, I was a bit angered by the ending. They expect me to wait patiently for 10 months to see what happens next? And Barbossa...WTF? Tres random. I thought it was fairly amusing that he bit into an apple at the end. In the first movie when Jack is on the Black Pearl and negotiating with Barbossa (Barbossa says, "So that leaves me standing on some beach watching you sail away on my ship with naught but a name and your word it's the one I need" etc.) he takes a bunch of apples, one of which he gives to Barbossa, who glares at it before throwing it angrily in the water. He was obviously a little upset about being left with food, which he can't eat due to being cursed.

I really don't think Elizabeth will leave Will for Jack. It wouldn't make much sense, and after the heart wrenching Will/Elizabeth saga of the first movie, it would be very cruel of the writers to just throw that down the drain. Jack and Elizabeth did have some questionable moments, but I don't think they're actually in love. It's my opinion that the compass pointed to Jack (when Elizabeth had it) because she wanted him to do the right thing, show that he's a good man, something like that. Maybe not though. Maybe I should reconsider my opinion.

But anyway, overall I thought it was decent, not quite as good as the first one - probably because we had way more expectations this time - but it held its own. I loved the idea of Norrington being a ruined man, joining a pirate crew. Very cool. The sea creature-people were probably some of the creepiest things I've ever seen, and Davey Jones made me just a little uneasy.

i think because davey jones doesn't find his heart in the chest, he may have stopped the kracken from killing jack and destroying the black pearl all together. Maybe davey jones takes them both to world's end.

I think the new villian in part 3 who chow yun fat is playing may have something to do with new guy who wanted jack's composs. Just my theory, but i don't think jack died, but i was surprised elizabeth chained him to the ship so he could die with the ship.

Once again as i've mentioned in other forums, the ending was a perfect set up for the third film, can't wait for next summer, i think spidey 3 is going to have some real competition, also with shrek 3 and the new harry potter movie. peace.

Elizabeth was conning Jack to get what she wanted...the papers...and to leave Jack on the ship...

Jack went back for his ship since Jack looked pointedly at the Kracken (sp?) tearing it apart. It was the heart or the ship, the compass pointed at the ship. I guess it could have been pointing at Elizabeth, and Will, and Gibbs, and the rest of the crew...

As for Will finding the Black Pearl...somehow...find the Pearl, find Jack.

Anyway...SPOILERS

The tense moment where the Kracken devours Jack was intense. Though, he's obviously not dead as Jack went in with a sword.
What would be really cool is when Davey Jones summons the Kracken again in PotC3...and it never comes...get my drift...??
Awesome...

Though...how Barbossa will fit in all that is a mystery... As for the question (how is Barbossa still alive?) I was always confused in the order of events in the first PotC...because Jack shoots Barbossa AND THEN Will drops the last Aztec coin in the chest... Ah well...

Oh my heck...
Like I said in some other post, Elizabeth kisses Jack to get him near the mast to cuff him. And Elizabeth doesn't kill Jack, Jack's still alive, plus, Jack freed himself anyway. He could have jumped off the ship right after, but didn't. The Captain always goes down with his ship. So, even if Elizabeth didn't cuff him, Jack most likely would have stayed for his ship and he most likely knew the Kracken was after him anyway.

The irony: the crew don't know Elizabeth cuffed him. She told them he chose to stay behind.
Now, Elizabeth doesn't know that Jack actually escaped from his cuffs. Now Elizabeth feels guilty, when she really shouldn't.

The only reason she kissed him was[SPOILER] to get the handcuffs on him, cause there was no way he was going to stay there. She knew the Kraken was after him and it would of killed them all on the escape boat. Plus she was still pissed at him for tricking Jack into getting the key instead of Jack getting it himself. At the end she was feeling guilty about killing Jack, not that she was in love with him. the prime confusion is that dialogues at the end were not loud enguh and i think it was every bit intended not to be loud enugh. bummer.
well, i think elizabeth says something like, the compass points to you....to jack at the end.
well, based on the passionate kiss and making will turner look at it, i think will-elizabeth romance bit is well and truly over. i have hardly watched a hollywood flick in which a girl goes back to her ex- after a passionate kiss with another. it will be a usual, 'time changes mind' reasoning. the interesting part will be to see how they develop liz-jack romance further. if they do develop liz-jack romance , no doubt will turner will be the one to die at the end. the gut feeling is that they could also go defensive and make liz die saving both the heroes. in any triangle love flick, one person always dies!lol.

Besides, Elizabeth wasn't really falling for Jack she was falling for The Life of a Pirate - something she has always been fascinated by. (Am I going to be too nerdy if I reccommend you all read House of Mirth - the cliff notes versian at least?)

If Elizabeth was going to leave Will for Jack (besides not sacrificing Jack) she would have kissed him during the "but my hands are dirty" scene - oops, sorry wrong movie. I meant during the conversation on the boat where he calls her a pirate and she says he's a good man.

And qstorm has the correct quote. If you didn't hear it complain to your theatre, it was obviously meant to be heard.

as for jack deciding to come back to the ship when the kraken is destroying the black pearl, i think the reason is because when he talked to elizabeth about saving will and that will is a good guy and such and so jack thinks maybe he shouldnt think just about himself.

to those who saw it-can u tell what jack stole from tia dalma's house? if im correct, i saw him hide something when she was away.
now, will saw elizabeth kiss jack passionately but dint see her chain him. she hasnt told that to the crew either. so to will liz has fallen for jack. thats why i feel liz-will romance cud be over. having been betrayed-will wudnt be able to be romantically linked to liz anymore too. i think the puzzle might be linked to what jack hid from tia's house somehow.

okay but how is barbossa still alive??? i thought jack killed him in the first movie.

also i thought the whole jack&elizabeth kiss was pretty self-explanitory. elizabeth has always had a pretty negative attitude towards jack. and now that she notices that she's starting to develop feelings for jack (thru the compass etc) she's afraid. and wants to get rid of him. along with having him do the right thing. the kiss was just to lure him into being cuffed to the pearl. but then later once she thinks he's been killed she starts to feel guilty and want him back. possibly also because she really does have feelings for him? i could be wrong, but thats just what i got out of it.

i do think that would be really crappy for potc3 if elizabeth leaves will for jack tho.

i guess we'll just see what happens.
which i am far too impatient to wait that long for.

but yeah how's barbossa still alive?
i can't figure it out.

There seems to be a lot of confusion and I just want to clear some things up. It was probly just hard to understand what Voo-doo lady was saying so people are confused.
JACK IS DEAD! Its the entire basis for the third movie! I promise you. Voo-doo lady says he's in WORLDS END which is where you go when you die. And to bring him back from the dead/worlds end they will need someone who has been there and back again. Enter Barbossa. We don't know how he escaped from the land of the dead which is worlds end, but thats for the third and last movie to reveal.

also i thought the whole jack&elizabeth kiss was pretty self-explanitory. elizabeth has always had a pretty negative attitude towards jack. and now that she notices that she's starting to develop feelings for jack (thru the compass etc) she's afraid. and wants to get rid of him. along with having him do the right thing. the kiss was just to lure him into being cuffed to the pearl. but then later once she thinks he's been killed she starts to feel guilty and want him back. possibly also because she really does have feelings for him? i could be wrong, but thats just what i got out of it.

i do think that would be really crappy for potc3 if elizabeth leaves will for jack tho.

i guess we'll just see what happens.
which i am far too impatient to wait that long for.

but yeah how's barbossa still alive?
i can't figure it out.


i heard the voodoo lady bought barbossa back to life and that she will do the same for jack in the third one

JACK IS DEAD! Its the entire basis for the third movie! I promise you. Voo-doo lady says he's in WORLDS END which is where you go when you die. And to bring him back from the dead/worlds end they will need someone who has been there and back again. Enter Barbossa. We don't know how he escaped from the land of the dead which is worlds end, but thats for the third and last movie to reveal.

I was reading through all the threads waiting to see if anyone wrote what is above, cuz i was seriously going to write it myself. Every one was wondering how Barbossa is back, he is back the same way Johnny will be back. Remember that chic at the end said they needed someone who has travelled the seas before. Well Barbossa did, cuz he died and went there. He came back the same way Johnny will, and will lead the way. I think in the 3rd they will be allies. I wait for when Johnny sees him for the first time....Im wondering how Keith will play a part...unless they meet at Worlds End.
