What few people from Countingdown might see this film, please post your reviews of twhat you think here. Please use spoiler tags, for as someone noted, there are some twists to the story that probably should be option to view.

Thanks,

Rostron

Review:

Here is a case where the critics didn't see the same film that I did.

Tristan and Isolde is a very honest effort, and is neither pretentious or overblown, as most attempts at doing a period romance are these days.

I enjoyed both the story they chose, and the performances by the actors involved.

The dialogue was good, the look of the film was quite beautiful, and the story was well executed. The truth of the situation made their relationship tragic, and they expressed that, as well. I liked the fact that unlike Romeo and juliet, the protagonists understood what they were getting into was trouble.

Fine performances by James Franco and Sophia Myles, supported perfectly by Rufus Sewell as a very sympathetic character in Lord Marke.

The bad guys were appropriately bad without being caricatures. They had very clear motivations.

It's not going to win any awards, certainly, nor much recognition, which is sad. It's a surprisingly good film (very non-Hollywood), with excellent production values and action. It also doesn't suffer from having huge box-office stars in the title roles, so you can simply enjoy the two people who meet, and what happens after that.

I'd place it well above 'King Arthur' certainly, and I'd highly recommend seeing it.

I went with a group of friends, and we really enjoyed it. James Franco was really grand. I though the music was perfect, and I liked the wedding scene on the lake.
