I LOVED it, seriously. Ummmm I'm just going to say that her line in the review about her friend jumping and squealing, is true.

PS Matthew is so HOT. Yummmm!

Susanne's review has some spoilers but not bad, I think...I hope!

Thanks for the link! I really need to see this movie. I'm glad you guys liked it. But if you liked the film, you'll love the books. Trust me.

Cussler wrote the book, but I don't think he was really involved in making this film.

It was a pretty good action adventure movie, good for a Saturday afternoon. The audience seemed to enjoy it, too.

I finally got to see this movie this weekend, and here is what I think:

I thought it was good enough for a Saturday afternoon outing with the family, however, it is not a film I would want to watch over and over or buy on DVD.

Overall review:

+ the opening credits with the newspaper clippings and other items referring to some of the adventures in other Dirk Pitt books and showing Al and Dirk growing up together...nice touch, I thought.
+ the buddy chemistry between Matt and Steve (just like how Dirk and Al would be)
+ the casting of all the characters except for Penelope Cruz (don't like her all that much)
+/- the overexaggerated action sequences
- minor bad cinematography, including unnecessary shots or bad continuity.
- the changes made to the original plotlines in the book (this was my major beef with this film)

If you ever get the chance I highly recommend reading the books. So much better in the storytelling and action departments when you use your own imagination.

I read all of his books and I disagree with you about the casting of the characters. I LOVE Matthew (so hotttt!) and Steve Zahn (so hillarious), but I think that they were both terrible picks for the roles! Neither of them at all fit the image of Dirk and Al. Especially Al. That was my biggest argument (besides the fact that it was so different from the book). I was expecting something alot better considering that Clive Cussler was supposedly so actively involved in the making of the movie. Very disapointing in my opinion. It would have been an amazing movie if I had never read the books. Bummer for me. Maybe there will be a redeeming sequel.

Don't get me wrong. If I were directing a Clive Cussler book, I wouldn't cast Matt or Steve either, I'd rather go with unknowns. But, for what the movie was, I think that the chemistry between Matt and Steve was good enough to bring across Dirk and Al's buddy relationship.
