The time and effort expended on King Arthur is obvious. The costumes and makeup are excellent, and film is crisply rendered and full of atmosphere. The performances of Clive Owen and Kiera Knightley are also noteworthy. The problem with it is that it wants so badly to been seen as a history that none of the magic that made the legend so popular makes it over. Celebrated characters such as Lancelot and Guinevere are construed in such a way that they are almost unrecognizable. For the full skinny on this film see Ecritiques.com
