OK, here's my review, having now seen the film.
Battle Sequences: ****
Characters: **
(Stellan Skarsgaard was the best)
Keira Knightly: **
Story: **
Realism: **
I found this film fun to watch but deeply flawed in a lot of areas. Someone already pointed out some of the weird anachronisms of this film.
I also found the characters to be rather uninspiring:
Let's face it, these Roman knights that they are portraying just don't have anything to inspire them, they come off as gloomy and somewhat cynical of their quest. Now, maybe that was the intent, but if that had been the case, I don't think anybody would have created the legends surrounding the mysterious Arthur and his knights.
The other issue here is that there's nothing classical about their behavior, certainly not Guinevere. Now I'm not against women showing their more active selves, but feminism in 452 AD was just not like that. She's got spirit, and obviously enjoyed the role, but it just didn't move me. It was a character designed to inspire moviegoers, not build empires.
Contrast her performance with that of Connie Nielsen in Gladiator. There was a 'modern' woman doing her best in a man's world, and it was completely believable.
Overall, I give it 2 1/2 stars, at least for effort.
Like I said, I enjoyed watching it, but it's far from a great film.

Overall, it was a slight disappointment, but I was still impressed. The story was not as strong as I thought it would be, but I like how they decided to use the more accurate historical story. I mean, I would still have enjoyed the Arthur legend/myth along with everyone else, but it would be tough having to choose between the usual story and the story they used here. And I must admit, they did a pretty good job with this. Anyways... the acting was splendiferous. These people really brought the characters to life. Also, the music was beyond fantastic. It made the audience feel what the characters were feeling. The action sequences were great too. If I were to rate this out of 4 stars, I would give it 3. And supposively, the director's cut is supposed to be much better, so I shall be looking forward to the DVD release.
