Sorry, Browncoats. Joss Whedon confirmed the other day on Whedonesque.com that there are absolutely no plans for a sequel to SERENITY and there probably never will be. This shouldn't be too surprising since, although the first movie was liked, if not loved, by the majority of those who saw it, not too many people outside of its fanbase actually did see it. Then again, SERENITY was based on a television show screwed and unfairly cancelled by its network after less than a season so a return wouldn't have been a completely head-scratching turn of events. And apparently there has been recent rumors of a sequel. In response, Whedon exercised a bit of tough love: "There's no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I'm not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there" and even suggested that everyone "put that to bed and smother it with a pillow." You can check out the full blog entry HERE. SERENITY 2 hits theaters... oh right.
Thank God for small favors. It should never get a sequel even though I liked it more than Superman Returns....
