Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
I have recently went to go see the movie The Phantom of the Opera. I have always been a big fan of the music and the haunting story itself. The Movie Phantom of the Opera stars Gerard Butler (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, and upcoming movie Dear Frankie in theaters March 4), Emmy Rossum (The Day After Tomorrow) Patrick Wilson (The Alamo) Minnie Driver (Ella Enchanted) and Miranda Richardson (The Prince and Me). Butler playing Erik, most commonly known as the Phantom gives a very seductive and powerful performance. Seducing Rossum, who plays Christine Daae, by his voice, Butler gains the trust of the brilliant singer Christine who has accepted the Phantoms teaching in her dreams. Christine (Rossum) trusts the Phantom (Butler) mainly on the fact that her now deceased father promised her he would send to her the Angel of Music. But once Christine begins her life of fame it attracks the ear of childhood sweet heart Raoul (Wilson). Who now falls in back in love with Christine. This greatly angers the Phantom and causes him to continuously disrupts the operas taking place in the movie. And of course the love triangle between Raoul, the Phantom and Christine.

Filled with all the songs that you would hope to find that are written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, they are performed with greatness. Anything you would hope to expect. Although after hearing Michael Crawford's version of the Phantom it is hard to adjust to Butler's style of singing. But his version is very beutiful too, allowing a deeper, more masculine voice. Butler also gives a very haunting and stunning performance as the Phantom, really bringing out all of the Phantoms characteristics. Rossum too, is just perfect for her role as Christine. Emmy Rossum's voice is magnificent and stunning to the last song performed. She is able to hit all those high notes and make them sound like a true opera song. Wilson. who plays Raoul also does a good performence in equaling out with Christine and the Phantom to make the encounters of the three worth watching and listening to. Driver pulls out a wonderfully stuck up Charolleta. Bringing out her opera voice that we would hope it would sound like. And Richardson who plays Giry, gives a good performance on showing her emotion toward the hurt and cast aside Erik (Phantom).

The Phantom of the Opera was a very good movie. The costumes were wonderful and full of life, the cinematography was excellent in following around the dance sceens and focusing on the faces of the actors. Director Joel Schumacher did an excellent job in bringing a classic that the world has come to love, to the big sceen. I really enjoyed this movie. And I would recommend all who enjoy romantic movies, Andrew Lloyd Webbers music, or just musicals in general to go and see this movie.
