Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
Saw this movie last week with mixed feelings. Concerned about whether
I would allow my 12 year old to view it.
Movie Review:
My thoughts on this movie...
I saw this movie with my son and our bible
study group. It is a raw and powerful film.
It has moments of sheer beauty that have
even more impact for all the brutality
around them.

For those who believe this film carried the
wrong message, I would ask them to remember
that this is Mel Gibson's interpretation of
Christ's final hours on earch. It is not
intended to recap His entire message. There
is not enough time for all of it. I am
grateful that Mr. Gibson cut scenes from
the offering of the bread/wine at the Last
Supper in with scenes of the crucifixion.
He included enough key statements of Christ's, in retrospect, to give a subtext
to what was otherwise an exercise in un
relieved gore; sufficient even for those
unfamiliar with the Gospels.

Yes, the film was strongly emotional, and
often hard to watch. I don't believe it
exaggerated the reality, though. I believe
the film was Mr. Gibson's personal witness.
He has people thinking and talking about
Christ; His message and sacrifice. Because
of this film, people will seek God. All
you have to do is read the debates on the
message boards here and elsewhere.

I thought the film was superbly acted and
beautifully photographed; unexpectedly
artistic in many ways.

I would recommend it with reservations. It
is not a film for young children, or for
those who are easily upset by graphic
violence and blood.
