1. It was a documentary, and we obviously knew how it ends.

2. It was only a gore fest, sure it was jesus and he 'died for our sins' but

3. what does that even mean?

4. Instead of showing the death of Jesus, perhaps Mel ought to have shown what he did for man kind, not what we did to him.

5. Nothing even happened in the movie, all we saw was the death of a character that, only counting the movie, we know nothing about. hey, maybe he desirved to die for all we know.

6. Mel gibbson is now going to hell for capitolizing off of Jesus.

also I find it rediculous that if you write the word Passion on something it will now sell like mad. I just find it blasphemous.

Given you last sentence it is obvious that you were just looking to ruffle some feathers. Didn't work.
As an athiest, I loved this film. it was gory, yes. And that is my only problem with the movie. But I still thought the acting and cinematography were simply unparallelled. The score soared and the subtitles made me feel like I was watching a true event as it unfolded.

And if all the other religious people out there profiting off God are not going to hell (which I don't believe in anyway), then why would Mel?

The word passion covers more than sex,
and I don't know how you can find it
'blasphemous' when you plainly don't
believe in any of it.

The suffering and death of Christ are
referred to as His passion in the New
Testament, and in the subsequent
writings of biblical scholars and other
people. Mel Gibson did not make it up.

My only critiscism of the movie was (if you red my CD review) that the flashback bits to do with what Jesus was thinking (he was thinkin' about Mary) would be false, as Jesus is a Man sent down by God, he doesn't think like we do, his attention will be upon God at all times, that is how much he loves God. Thats what I think and believe, then again I may not know what Jesus is thinkin'. You know what I mean.

I dissagree. That was one of the things I liked best. I liked that Jesus was more human than God.

If he's a God, then his suffering doesn't really touch me the same way as the suffering of a fragile human like me. So Him thinking of Mary, whom I believe he loved, just made sense. It made the movie real for me.

As an athiest, I thought it was a great story.

As for why I liked the film, it sure wasn't because he was Jesus. It was because he is a famous historical figure/character. Who he was and what he was is inconsequential. What matters is what people think he was and how that has shaped the world since.

I am fascinated from a historical perspective.

But also, I love seeing a new version of any popular character. For example, I love seeing every version of King Arthur or Dracula, Frankensten and Robin Hood. I just like to see what the creators of the film are going to show me that I've never seen before that will help me to better see the character as in a new way.

My favorite Jesus story is Godspell, where Jesus is a hippie in the late 60's in New York City.

First off....un-good? That makes me think someone wasn't thinking all that hard when they wrote this. Anywho,
1. I give you examples: Troy, Titanic, Alamo, and war movie, and movie about something that actually happened. All usually good movies and many won tons of awards, most deserved some didn't. It was not a documentary, I didn't see cuts to Mary explaining her exact emotion while we see scenes of Jesus being nailed to the cross.
2. It was not really a gore fest there are movies that are complete gore fests that people seemed to love, i.e. Kill Bill Vol. 1, Saving Private Ryan. Those two were just as bad if not worse. I truly think the reason it seems that way in this then in other movies is because all of the attention on what is being done to one single person.
3. I think this question was answered well, it was the name of the play that starts with Jesus trial all the way to his resurrection and I think it refers to Jesus Passion for the human race in giving his own life to save all of them.
4. If Mel would have shown what he did the whole span of the bible the movie would have been a week long. He focused on one basic event that everyone knows with snippets hidden within to gain interest in the whole picture. And quite honestly even as a religious person myself I think a movie that would show all of that would be hard to watch and keep interest for long periods of time.
5. First of all this was a very historic character and apparently by the 370 million it made in our country alone people seemed to care even though they supposedly didn't know the character as you say. There are about a billion Christians in the world.
6.For you to presume that you know who is going to hell and who isn't defeats the purpose of Christianity all together. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Where did that come from....oh wait the....bible...thats it the bible. Is it so hard to believe that maybe just maybe he was trying to be a tad bit evangelical with his own depiction of the death of Jesus? Just maybe I mean if the other side is plausible I think this side would be as well.

The one point that you make that i do agree with is that people shouldn't be using the name to sell things now as that is using something of that nature to make money but other than that nah nah
I think your right Longshot and Cosmo please don't point fingers at other religions and talk about hating them.

i didnt think that aswell..the movie had alot of blood...but it wasnt a gore fest.

I disagree. It was far more violence than any human can endure while remaining conscious. Even if it was exactly as the Bible says, I belive the Bible is known to exaggerate. Dissagree? How long did Noah live?

its just the you felt the pain and suffering that jesus did

where as in other film...dudes get there heads cut off...but you dont even know the characters name

As I have said before, if he was at all human, theammount of blood he lost would have rendered him unconscious and then dead. So either the Bible exaggerated or Mel did. Or the guy isn't very human. If that is the case, I think it would dimminish what he went through. I mean, a God suffering as the hands of man is about as sympethetic as a billionare being pick pocketed by a homeless man.

well the body does hold heeps of blood you know...and the most bloodiest part of the film was the whipping...the blood that was on the floor after that

yeah when he was stabbed i think it was mostly water that emptied out anyway. And longshot while what your saying very viable we don't know the exact amount of anything maybe just maybe he had just enough lol. Who knows. People have done weirder things

no..it was red

because it sprayed out over everyone..remember..the guy that stabed him..he was upset..





the blood in this film was way way way to smooth...real blood is thick

The Passion of Christ is about just what it says... his Passion..

The movie was about the last 12 hours of Jesus's time on Earth with us. And the most important part of his life. He sufferered and died for OUR sins. He is, and is known as, "the lamb of God." God sacrificed his son for us to all be forgiven..to save our souls. If you don't understand that, and find it beautiful, and what it is.. a passion, then you have truly missed everything the New testament stands for. Jesus and his coming to us, to die for us.

And...he has even risen...beautiful story. Truly, the greatest story ever told.
