Well, Unknown Jedi, just like everybody else said, I think you should follow what you truly believe. You can't just ask people what they think you should be and follow that. You have to follow your own heart and mind and decide for yourself.
Me personally, I was raised as a Baptist, but now, I try to see the truths and beauties in all religions. I still consider myself a Christian, because I believe that Jesus was Divine and that he came to Earth to show us how to live and then he died for us. But I also believe that in this world, there is no religion that is 100% correct about everything. The teachings of Jesus were correct, but since his death, people have been adding things to Christianity for thousands of years, some of those things I believe were incorrect. I think that many of the world's religions (Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, just to name a few) have certain principles and beliefs that are good and true, but also have principles that are flawed and wrong. So while my core belief system is Christianity, I can also be considered a Syncretist. (In the dictionary, Syncretism is defined as "The attempt or tendency to combine or reconcile differing philosophical or religious beliefs.")
Oh, and I'd just like to add a couple of things:
If you don't like religions that cling to old-fashioned beliefs and absolutely will not give up old-fashioned ways no matter what, then the Baptist sect of Christianity is NOT for you. Baptists are VERY old-fashioned.
Also: I think you said you were thinking about converting from Catholicism to Christianity, but it's always been my understanding that Catholicism is a form of Christianity. There are lots of different sects of Christianity. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. -Tyler Durden, "Fight Club" |

freesia39 said: i think you've come here looking for acceptance.
i'm gonna tell you this.
DO WHAT YOU WANT.
you can't just "pick and choose" whatever religion is trendy (i.e.... kabbalah...). pick one you believe in. if you no longer believe in the beliefs of the catholic church then maybe you'd start looking into other religions. or not believe at all.
i believe longshot can give a nice exposition on the prior sentence.
You just had to suck me in, didn't you?
Well, I am athiest or agnostic at best, but my wife is Lutheren. She and I were both raised Roman Catholic. She describes Lutheren as Catholic-Lite. Not as stringent, and no Pope. Instead they look at the Bible as more of a guide than the end all, be all. So they have no problem with homosexuality or mastebation or the little stuff. They also do not see blood or the sacrement of communion as quite the same thing. It is more symbolic in Lutheren while in Catholicism is it taken more literal as though you are actually partaking in the body of Christ. Kind of icky if you think of it.
But I am sure a more religious person can better help you.
But do what you believe rather than what people are less likely to talk bad about. And with the Passions, it is cool to be Catholic again, just like when Kennedy was president. So ride the wave and if anyone says anything, tell them to f-off.
But do it in a nice, Christian way. February 3, 1959

| Well I am not atheist, Christian, Pagan, Wiccan, Buddhist, Voodoo, Mormon, Catholic, Nihlist, Muslim, Hinduist, or any main and non-main religion for that matter. Alright I do believe there is a god yet I don't believe any of those religions translation of him. They kind of simplify it and condense it into human thinking levels so that is why I don't believe them. I guess I don't have a religion. THE BRIDE: It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it coming. When you grow up, if you still feel raw about it, I'll be waiting.
And with that apology, statement, and invitation, The Bride walks out the kitchen side door, leaving the little girl to her mourning.
Yeah I know my screen name sucks. |
