Just a little curious although im sure its been done on here before... what are your thoughts on it? There is historical evidence of it after all...

How about the other negative messages consistently repeated in the movies even evident in the recent ones?

Just a debate topic

Walter Elias Disney was NOT a Nazi. PERIOD.

Anyone want to provide some b.s. "proof" to the contrary? I'll happily go some rounds with someone on this topic.

Okay, let's get some facts straight. I am the resident Disney expert. My senior marketing thesis was on Walt.

He tried to join up to fight in WWI but was too young. He was 16, so they let him be a driver for the Red Cross in Europe.

In WWII, he dedicated 94% of his studio's recourses to the war effort. He made proaganda films for the US government, made training films and liscensed out his characters for the millitary. 40% of all Marine baracks had Donald Duck on the front door with a cigar in his mouth and a rifle on his back.

The rumors of Walt being pro-Nazi are false, just as the rumors of him being frozen in carbonite or whatever. He died of cancer in 1966. Period.

Walt Disney Biography

I defy anyone to show me any proof that Walt was a Nazi or Communist or anything other than possibly a neglecting father.

It actually comes from 2 things.
1. One of Walt's daughters had married a guy and then divorced him. To get back at her, the guy wrote a scathing book filled with all kinds of lies about Walt, including that he was secretly a Nazi symethizer during WWII and that he was also a Communist sympethizer during the Korean War. The book came out after Walt's death and became a huge deal in the early 1970's. Time Magazine even did a huge feature on the truth about Walt Disney in which they debunked everythin in the book.

2. The Simpsons cartoon did many Disney parodies and in one of them, they had several referenced to the creators of itchy and scratchy being closet Nazis. This ignited an internet whisper campaign that again alleged Walt was evil. Mostly perople involved were just annoyed with the direction Disney took under Michael Eisner but decided to sully Walt's good name instead for the shock value.

I am not surprised that no one has come forward with any alleged "proof".

I've heard rumors of him being a racist. But I guess the public will never really know if it's true or not.

As ANNOYING as it is, I can't fathom anyone who came up with the idea for the "It's A Small World" ride being a racist.

Man, until I see some real proof he was a 'Nazi' I'm not believing it. I think it's funny that people will make jokes of it or try to be serious about it, but then when asked they just stay silent.

I think it's kind of funny...really. They only bring this crap up when the person in question is dead and can't defend themselves.

Exactly.

But if anything, it stems from the fact that they made the film "Song of the South", which was a collection of African American folk tales told during the Reconstruction after the Civil War.

The stories do not always paint a pretty picture of of their lives, which is true to their experiences at the time. To me, that isn't rasist, but rather a quasi-historical look at a very bad time in our history. There is a reason the film won 4 Acadamy Awards and was considered a benchmark in race relations in the 1940's. Harry Truman, who integrated the Army in 1951 during the Korean War, sited the film as one of the most inspirational films he had ever seen.

The simple fact is that Disney was all about racial harmony. Disneyland was one of the first amusment parks to enact an anti-discrimination policy. Disney was the first studio to hire African Americans in lead feature roles. They were also one of the first to hire Chineese in lead roles.
I realise most of you probably are unaware of the fact that Asians were considered the lowest of all social classes, but it was that way for about 200 years here. Ironically, it wasn't untill we started going to war against Asian countries in the 20th Century that the stigma dissapeared.
