$9.01mil domestic!

Even I didn't think it would be that bad....

No sequel on the horizon anymore according to sources in LA. The overseas box office stalled which assures the film to end it worldwide release deep in the red. Unconfirmed figures put the studio's estimated losses at just shy of $100mil after paying theaters and including marketing costs.

Such a shame....

Akira needs to get the rights back or Fox needs to off load them to someone who cares about the characters and fans.

I'm not surprised that it's going to close in a loss but I wasn't expecting this kind of bomb.

I just really hope that this doesn't scare another studio from taking a crack at it eventually.

After tax breaks but before marketing costs the budget fell around $73mil. Originally it was said to be $110mil and then after it was released to some of the worst reviews ever, someone tried to say the budget was $45mil.

But probably the marketing in asia is not include here

Fox didnt believe in the franchise, use an script from 2002 and a Average Director in a low budget.

Instead of something like this

I'm really not suprised. The movie wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it was still goddamn awful. I believe it did pretty bad in Asia as well which suprised me. The movie has just been a failure. A sequel now? I doubt it.

Right. A newspaper from Chile. People in Hollywood laughed at the article.

Well, I'm from Chile (wow, is that a funny coincidence or what?) and I can tell you, newspapers around here just take whetever comes from International News agencies or the web without double-checking anything...

I've seen news taken from "The Sun" so many times get published around here...

Anyway, I'm going with the 100 mil. figure.

I think FOX did enough damage to assure another Dragonball movie is never made.

Think about it. The Incredible Hulk didn't make as much money as it could have because of negative reactions from Hulk even though The Incredible Hulk is what fans wanted.

I predict that if there's another Dragonball movie it'll make about four or five mill, no matter how good it is. Then losses would be so great that everyone just gives up . . . Or not

This movie never deserved money. It's a crime that it even got a cent out of the box office.

My Film Rankings 2009
1. Inglourious Basterds - 5 of 5
2. Watchmen - 5 of 5
3. Moon - 4.5 of 5

7. The Hangover 4 of 5
8. Star Trek - 2 of 5

Is it to much to ask that Fox actually follow the source material for its projects. If they had even come close to the source material it might have been a decent movie, the same can be said for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. JUST FOLLOW THE SOURCE MATERIAL

I am just saying that is were the 45 million figure came.

If the movie cost 100 million, James Wong is then a horrible director, better and longer movies has been made with 80 million, this has 85 minutes, and it looks that all the budget go the school scenes and the Grandpa Gohan fight, the most important scenes, Goku vs piccolo and Shenlong looks so cheap, those scenes were important, both disapointed.

Why don't they make the movie from the country it originated from, that way it get's it own cultural take on it and they can do it their way.
How well is it doing in Japan for example,it might be a hit there but a miss in the US OF A.

Looking on the link, it's not that bad afterall.

Domestic: $9,089,788 16.2%
+ Foreign: $46,880,853 83.8%
= Worldwide: $55,970,641

If (and I do mean IF) this movie ever gets made for a theatrical release, this will be the perfect opportunity to start over from scratch and do the series as well as the fans some justice. Im talking total RETCON here. Replace the role of Goku and go with someone a little more credible. He doesn't necessarily have to be established or well known for that matter, but at least credible for the character. That kid with the funny hair-do just wasn't cutting it. He looked like someone who had a bad day at the hair dresser and should have asked for a refund.

Part two is where you learn from the mistakes of the past and realize that this movie is all about the fans, and as fans wed simply ask for one thing and one thing only: stop trying to bring the cheesiness from the cartoon (which was endearing) to the big screen and give us a story that is plausible and has depth. It's not just about the fights (although they make Dragonball what it is). It's also about the heart of the character and how he struggles with maintaining his innocence and carefree nature in the face of true evil while coming into the powers of a demi-god. The episodes when Frieza wounded Picolo and killed Krillin, were the best scenes in the whole sage because we felt Goku struggle with that desperation, hatred, and rage as he was faced with hopelessness. When he finally did transform...CLASSIC! Give us that type of movie instead of trying to pander to promoting toys and other wack commercialism. Take a cue from the Wachowski brothers and the success they had with The Matrix. A film that initially had no big promotional advertising but turned out to be an awesome story that has gone on to cult status. One could see the passion that went into that movie before they lost their minds hollywood-style and totally screwed the pooch with the other two. Fans would love to see that same passion develop into a trilogy based on Dragonball Z as we see Goku finally fulfill his destiny and become a Super Saiyan. Stop trying to cram the entire series into a 2 hour frame and spread it out like Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings. Or maybe they should hire him to write the next script so it would really be worth seeing.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: This movie can be brought to the big screen and done right. The technology exists to bring every awesome fight scene and every awesome transformation to reality. It would just take an amazing set of writers and a passionate director to give it life. The question though is "Do you continue to churn out garbage just for the sake of a check, or do you put a little thought and effort into this next project and see it become (in the words of Barney Stinson...) AWESOME?!"

My Picks for the new REBOOT:
1. Goku - Chris Hemsworth, Channing Tatum
2. Vegeta - Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Alex Frost
3. Piccolo - Chris Judge, Vin Diesel
4. King Vegeta - John Glover, Kevin McKidd
5. Nappa - Vinnie Jones, Bill Goldberg
