My hubby and I had the same reaction. This is what he posted in the forum on SaveSuperman.com.....
As I've said previously, this was THE ABSOLUTE WORST film I've seen in a decade. Batman and Robin was 12 years ago now. However, this film makes Batman and Robin look good. No joke. I am one of the biggest DragonBall fans there is. Between the VHS tapes, the DVD's, the OVA's from Singapore, the toys, the cards...If it's attached to DragonBall, I most likely own it. Emi and I would sit and watch Superman Returns for a week straight before adding this to our DVD collection.
It was an absolute waste of my time in every possible sense.
The effects were as bad as Mortal Kombat 2. The story can't even be compared to anything because it was that bad. The acting, oh God, the acting...I wanted to carve my eyes out before I finished the first act. The editing was so bad that I've seen teenagers on YouTube do better with a home video camera and Macromedia software.
Seriously, Catwoman, Batman and Robin, Daredevil (theatrical release) were all Oscar winners in comparison.

1. Is this really a surprise to anyone?
2. Despite my hatred for anything Dragon-whatever, I could tell this movie was shite and couldn't be paid to go see it.

I saw the bootleg back when it came out in Asia.
It was...the DUMBEST PIECE oF **** i HAVE EVER SEEN!
No my childhood is not ruined b/c thank God, I was a Wolverine, Batman, Alien, and Predator fan as well so I have those to look at (ignore AVP!!)
The acting was terriable, the efects sucked, the ki blasts looked more like fire, Piccolo sucked, Goku was retarted, Rosi was unessecary, Yamcha...**** that and Bulma...well the only good part of her was her body, thats it. Mia...didn't have to be in this. It was just...look theres no other way of saying how bad this is. You just have to think of the worst movie you have ever seen...thats better then this. For crying out loud Speed Racer got a higher rating on IMDB. Dragonball should not be a ****ing live movie. Unless they do Z. The hell with Dragonball, and the hell with Gt, Just make 3 movies as best as you can out of Z. This film made me dumb actually.

I'm sure the sequal/s will be based on DBZ so maybe 2 movies based on the Sayin saga and Cell. If theres a 4th it will probly be based on Buu. Man i don't wanna see that pink retard on screen though maby they'll change his looks. That would be one change that'd be good. Thou i'd actuly be suprised if there was any at all. Even if they supposedly have a script for it.

Despite how horribly bad the trailers looked for the Dragonball movie, I still saw it.
The theater was surprisingly almost full (midnight showing), now I went in after reading countless negative posts on imdb and the movie isn't the worst thing in the world. Better than both Fantastic Four and Mortal Kombat movies. If you're a fan of DB there's some parts that you'll smile at, and some parts that you'll groan at.
Now, my main problem with this movie is that it's way too short. They should have totally ditched the whole first 30 minutes of the movie with Goku going to high school and going to Chichi's party. It would have been better to replace that with a story about Krillin or something. Another thing is that Yamcha's voice totally sounds like Yamcha in the American version of the show. But they should have replaced Yamcha with Krillin because Yamcha's character sucked, and Joon Park fails at acting.
Also the end battle should have been much longer, the editing was poor, actually all of the fight scenes should have been longer. Piccolo should have had more screen time. The acting was average, I though Chatwin did a good job with Goku, he was silly enough for me. Fat did a pretty good job for Roshi, his house being in the middle of the city was retarded though. Also, why the hell did Goku turn into Oozaru when he doesn't even have a tail? Plus he can't just undo that when he pleases.....
I know the movie was marketed towards kids and it definatly shows. But now that everyone kinda knows the back story, please make a DBZ movie awesome; and make it at least like 2.5 hours and a hard PG-13, with blood. Give it a better budget, and don't keep reiterating the plot every 20 minutes that was extremely annoying. The movie opens with them telling you the plot, then 20 minutes later Roshi is explaining it again, and they are always talking about how they need to get all the dragonballs. YES WE KNOW ALREADY.
Overall the movie is cheesy, but you have to remember that it's a kids movie. I mean it's not going to be The Dark Knight in terms of plot and character development. But it was obviously rushed, so they need to take their time with a DBZ movie.
AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THAT FOX JUST REUSED CLIPS FROM INDEPENDENCE DAY WHEN THEY WERE SHOWING FLASHBACKS OF A CITY BEING DESTROYED? I'm mean really.
They could have made it so much better, it's really a shame. Hopefully if they make a DBZ movie they'll get all new actors, hell get new everything since DBZ takes place like 6 years after the end of DB. Except for 87eleven, their stunts were cool.
DBE gets a 5/10 from me.
