Mulder and Scully are back in this movie based on the classic X-Files TV show! When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest's questionable "visions" send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women's disappearance.

It's a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere...and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!

Cast avid Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Xzibit, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, Timothy Olyphant.

My Thoughts:X-FILES:I want to go home!

Review:In an attempt to capitalize off of the success of the first "X-FILES" film which was released back in 1998, 20th Century Fox came up with the idea to put out a sequel to that film, albeit 10 years late. Was it a good idea? Probably not, bt in a capitalistic society....who can blame em right? "X-FILES 2:I Want To Believe" follows an FBI agent who mysteriously disappears, and is one of many people who have vanished in a mountainous area of rural West Virginia. A psychic ex-priest (Billy Connolly) is called in to solve the case, along with agent Fox Mulder. Scully decides to tag along, wanting to believe what Mulder believes....which is that they've finally found some real evidence of existence of the supernatural.

They believe this because the priest himself is subject to very graphic visions, ones Scully believes are not god sent. And neither is this film, or if it is....then there's a very cruel god up there. Either way, the tv show, even as I was not a fan of it, I still can say with certain that it was better than this movie. And so was "X-FILES:Fight The Future". "X-FILES 2" is a grossly disappointing film, and if you're a hardcore fan of the series...then you were probably alot more disappointed than I was. Like the tv series episodes, this film really strings the viewer along nicely.

But...unlike the tv series episodes, where there's actually a pay off in the end most of the time, "X-FILES 2" offers no pay off at the end, except a big fat check signed "DISAPPOINTMENT". The film isn't even as dark as some of the episodes, and unlike the series where Mudler and Scully seem to enjoy their work, in this film....it looks to the viewer as if it was simply a cruel prank played on both of them. By the writers no less, who you'd think just put these two back together again for a quick cash in era, while not really caring about the characters at all.

It felt like the writer of the movie was really detached from the tv show, which seems impossible considering Spotnitz and Carter wrote the film....but at some point you've got to appease your fans and the casual moviegoer, and this film when you look at the "X-FILES" mythology, doesn't do either one of those things. Even Mulder and Scully can't save it from the bad casting, the uninteresting characters, the boring script, or the lack of entertainment value. The two do share some nice on-screen moments, most of which come at the films conclusion where one has to rush in to rescue the other, but they don't get much screentime together for an "X-FILES" film.

And when they are on-screen, it's just Scully lecturing Mudler making him seem more and more like a total wacko instead of a true believer as he was portryed in the tv series. Amanda Peet and Rapper/actor Xzibit try to sure up the supporting cast, but Peet turns in a lackadasical performance, and Xzibit in a serious role as FBI agent Mosley Drummy doesn't really work too well. As I stated before, action is lost in this movie. There is very little to get excited about when watching "X-FILES 2".

Nothing like the good attempts at excitement and intrigue drummed up in part 1. The sequel just puts everything on cruise control and doesn't offer up anything even remotely intense until the final 25. Sadly, this movie is a huge waste of time throughout, and the ending is the icing on a very doldrumesque cake. "X-FILES 2" will probably go down in history as one of the most disappointing sequels ever made. I'm not a fan of the series, or the films in general, but I know a good sci-fi/horror/thrilelr when I see it. And "X-FILES 2" wasn't one....at all.

Positives:None really, other than Duchovny and Anderson turning in above average performances.

Negatives:Boring script, boring characters, a lack of action, intrigue, or mystery. The end reveal is just a joke.

Overall:One star.
