My thoughts on this movie...
|
In space, no-one can hear you snore. At least thats my take on the tagline. This film has dated as badly as a 30 year old tin of cat food. The once terrifying chestburster scene now appears hilarious and, as expected by todays standards seems tame and unremarkable. Ian Holm is perhaps the most unconvincing robot I've ever seen, and why did milk dribble down his face-Ripley never hit him there. And I'd like to put Alien forward for an award please, category : Worst Ian Holm Fake Head Seen In A Movie. I know its decades old but couldnt Ridley Scott have maybe cleaned it up or at least re-edited the shoddy scene for the re-release? Plus, the alien grows from tiny tadpole to huge-hog-beast in the space of 2 minutes. And it's OBVIOUSLY a man in a suit, AND the alien drool is clearly just water (James Cameron having the brains to use "goo"). But perhaps most crushing of all, John Hurt, the best actor in the movie, dies without having really done anything at all (besides scream like a nutter). Its still better than Alien 3 and 4, but then again, so is root canal.

Thoughts on the DVD release of this movie...

The DVD sucks, the original version is faaaar better. Yes this is provided but just hold on to your original Alien DVD's at least with that you've got Ridley "Im an old man" Scotts commentary
