I remember watching Dawn of the Dead...I didn't have high expectations, I just hoped to be somewhat entertained.
But I remember thinking during the opening credits as Johnny Cash blazed away that I would need to focus and memorize the name of the director.
By the end credits, I knew my intuition had been correct.
And since then, Zack Snyder has made 300 and Watchmen.
Besides the fact that all three movies have been made by the same man, IMO, they were also ALL MASTERPIECES.
It's true friends and mostly foes, Snyder has done it again. And this time around he has done the IMPOSSIBLE.
I truly believed that Watchmen could NEVER be done justice on the screen and while it is not a 100% faithful adaptation, it is SO DAMN CLOSE that NO ONE HAS ANY RIGHT TO COMPLAIN.
This is the closest anyone could come. Short of doing a season of television or a mini-series, this IS Watchmen. For as short as it is, every frame encompasses the novel and every small detail within any one frame seeks to enrich the viewer in the whole gory story.
This is LEGENDARY. A remarkable accomplishment. Comic book fans should line up to thank Mr. Snyder!
The movie works so well on at least three levels.
1. Firstly, Snyder was so honest in the telling of the story that he makes it accessible to the audience, just as the novel is, as though they are reading it in a dark room with people sitting around them.
2. It's REMARKABLY faithful for the fans. And let's face it, this is OUR movie. I truly felt that I was reading the novel. I've never had that before. Of all the most faithful Hollywood adaptations, I never got that same FEELING that I had when I was reading the book. But with Watchmen, I totally did.
3. He still leaves room for the cheap seats. Even if you're not looking for high-brow sensibilities, there is enough entertainment to be had for all.
Bottom line, EPIC, EPIC, EPIC ACHIEVEMENT!!!
This movie instantly became one of my all-time favorites!!!
I've been here since 2000 and have undergone six-seven personas, but I am still me...Tiffany, I love you. |

matacron said: Well, now I'm more eager than ever to see this film.
You and I may have our differences Bats, but if there's ANYONE in here qualified to critique THIS movie, it's you.
I may actually pay the extra five bucks so I can see it TONIGHT.
Thank you for the compliment.
But I don't know about that. I'm the first person to nail a studio on NOT getting the costumes right or NOT holding true to aspects of the story.
But this is SO DAMN CLOSE that all the trivial things that are change, IMO have to be squared off to the side and forgotten in the face of what's done RIGHT.
And so much is done right that it doesn't matter what was changed. And what was changed makes sense.
Most of the costumes were lame anyway, the changes that are made are not that major and hey, at least they aren't all wearing black leather. Color is still present. Most aspects of the costumes aren't changed. So BAM, who cares...
And then there's the ending.
I won't spoil it either way. But while the BIG REVEAL ending is somewhat changed, the end result is the same. The predicament is still the same.
A large Octopus vagina is a bit much anyway...
So again, I can't complain about this movie.
I truly can't. I've been here since 2000 and have undergone six-seven personas, but I am still me...Tiffany, I love you. |

I agree with you completely.
While I knew it wouldn't be as good as the graphic novel, obviously, I thought it would be fun nontheless. Well.. it wasn't just fun, it was GREAT.
The editing (what to leave out) was well thought out, the fight scenes were incredible and the casting was perfect.
The only problem I had with the film, and it wasn't a major problem, really, is that I felt that around 80% of the music didn't fit. I mean.. Dylan and co were not in my head as I was reading it. I felt that softer, more epic music would have been more welcome. Just my opinion.
Oh, and for non fans: it doesn't explain Bubastis. A woman behind me.. God she was annoying, CLEARLY hadn't read it DESPITE going to see a midnight showing, made me laugh despite her idiocy. The first showing of Bubastis I heard a 'what the hell is that?!' lol.
Oh, and SS was HOT.
And how sick was it when
Dan punches the thug's elbow and forces it through the other side and through the flesh
haha.. that was awesome.
But yeah, 9/10.
The Ice-Cold Drummer X-Stud.
Only a catholic could walk into a room of naked clowns killing each other and immediately look at the plate of biscuits sitting on the table - Dylan Moran

Yeah thing's like your spoiler were awesome little surprises.
Hell, I single-handedly got the ENTIRE audience to applaud when Rorschach put a cleaver throught the guy's forehead!!!
I was stoked on that. Put some faith back in humanity for me.
I will say that I disagree on the music front. I felt it was a perfect and eclectic mix of music from the 60's to the 80's.
But the Bubasis thing I agree on. Of all the many friends with me that saw the movie none of them had read the graphic novel and two of them asked me mid-scene what he was, and I told them, wait they'll explain. And they never did. I thought that was a minor, minor weakness. But yeah...
Still 90% of the group I was with really liked the flick which I found astounding and again, a major accomplishment for Snyder. I've been here since 2000 and have undergone six-seven personas, but I am still me...Tiffany, I love you. |

I agree with everything. Hands down best comic/graphic novel to film to date. I would have liked to seen the squid ending, I think it would have worked since it did in the gn, but the ending was on par with the original ending. Can not wait to buy this on Blu. |

My only complaint is the one song: Hallejuiah (sp?). The rest fit perfectly. During that scene, though, I just couldn't help but to start laughing my a** off. Its not a big deal and I'll get used to it, I just thought Snyder could have made a better decision.
Awesome movie, too bad its not getting the reviews it deserves . . .

Chou_Zu said: My only criticism is how unnecessarily graphic the sex scene was. We really didn't need to see quite so much thrusting, and I think it actually took away from how important that scene was for Nightowl's character.
I honestly feel the opposite. It was entirely necessary for his character. Seeing as how before he struggled with her sexually, seeing how strong their thrusting was during the sex scene just showed how much more confident and strong he had become as a character, not just because of her, but because of how he felt as a result of doing the heroic things that he did.
I was annoyed during that scene though, because I went with a few friends. One of whom was my best friend's ex. Don't get me wrong, I love the girl to bits, she's a really close friend. But she giggled all the way through that sex scene and I thought, "For God's sake, you're 18. How can you not watch a pair of adults making love on film without giggling?" Seriously, it was just embaressing. The Doctor: Even the monsters under your bed have nightmares...
Reinette: What do monsters have nightmares about?
The Doctor: Me!

When the music in the background is hysterical. I'm cool with sex scenes. But that one me thinking: Akerman is hot, but this is absurd. It was if Snyder purposely did that to offset the seriousness. But watevr, only a minor complaint. Still loved the film.

I will be buying the hardback edition of the graphic as soon as I get the money, I've been planning to for a while.
I have one thing to say concerning Watchmen (both graphic and film), and certain other titles;
Damn you Alan Moore. You're the world's most arrogant, stuck up, self righteous, abusive bastard... But you are one hell of a talented arrogant, stuck up, self righteous, abusive bastard.

It's because the sex scene was hilarious! Worst in history. Have you ever had sex? This scene was absolutely ridiculous. Cheesiest sex scene in history. It reminded me of a Tim and Eric sketch. Almost everyone in the theater was in stitches. A lot of people left in the middle of the movie. When the movie was over people were clawing for the exits. I have never seen anything like it.
