Columbia Demands Less Comedy, More Action and Drama

SUBMITTED BY LClem

April 5, 2003 — THE MEDALLION (Highbinders) According to Nanfang Daily, Hong Kong's EMG has agreed with Columbia's demand of cutting the film. As the result, most comedy scenes will be deleted and action scenes will remain untouched. The film has wrapped up almost a year ago but has yet arrived at any theater. Reportedly, Columbia (SONY), the film's international distributor, was not pleased with so many non-action scenes in the film. To solve the problem, EMG, production company from Hong Kong, once planned two versions of the film, a longer Asian version and a shorter international version. But now there will be only one version for all. Neither Jackie Chan nor director Gordon Chan is happy with the result, but they have no other option. Gordon Chan also told the paper that the worldwide release date has been pushed back from August to October.
