I'm sorry to see Garfield come to this. When I was in grade school I along with most of the rest of the school was into Garfield. Not because of the art or lame jokes but because of the art and the cynical biting commentary on everyday life and sometimes the day's politics. Yes, we were smart enough kids to get what the jokes were (well at least we grew to understand them in later grades). I loved the collections, I loved the early work. And I am sad to see the strip and everything about Garfield get created by commity and approved by a board of directors at the head of a syndicate. Bland bland stuff, guys. Some of you younger fans may not understand why I'm saying all this about today's Garfield. To understand, please pick up the first collection book of strips at your local library to understand where Garfield was and where it is today. Sorry, I just have to give my two cents worth because something needs to be said.
Wait a second, you're saying this movie cheapens Garfield? The same Garfield that hung from the windows of millions of cars in the 1980's? The same Garfield that has been a merchandising behemoth for almost 3 decades? Are we talking about the same Garfield?
