How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
|
Looking forward to it for nostalgic reasons. It has after all, been 10 years since "A Close Shave"

My thoughts on this movie...

Very charming. That's about the best thing I can say about it. That doesn't mean it was particularly interesting. I had a funny feeling when I read what the film's title was. "Were-Rabbit"? Oh dear. Given the genius of "The Wrong Trousers", and the adventure of "A Close Shave", I really expected more here in terms of plot, which frankly left me a little cold. Wallace and perticularly Gromit are teriffic characters and they deserve a better storyline than Wallace turning into a giant rabbit. Nick Park why did you settle for this uninspiring plot? Yes the bad dog checking his "purse" was amusing (if unoriginal), and some of the set-pieces impressed, but my goodness, if they're going to spend 5 whole years making something as painstaking as this, the story should have been polished to perfection first. Sadly, it wasn't, and what we have here is a film which doesn't match up to the older, more sophisticated short films. This is Wallace and Gromit lite, more for kiddies. the voice talent was perfectly fine, although I persoanlly don't see the point of hiring Ralph Fiennes and then having him deepen his voice so you can't recognise it. Peter Key shows up as a policeman with groan-inducing puns that would have made Tommy Cooper blush. Overall, it was enjoyable enough, but as a big fan of the shorts I was dissapointed. I also don't think they should have stuck "The Madagascar Penguins in A Christmas Caper" 10 minute short before this film, because this short looked so beautiful and was so funny and well done, it set up Wallace and Gromit for a fall. Now when the idea was to make plasticine popular again, was this decision wise? I want to see those darn penguins again!
