Was I the only one who was really disappointed by the movie? I read one entire string of posting saying that the movie was going to be a classic. Well folks, a movie has to be good to a be classic and this one just didn't cut it for me.

I thought the movie had a lot of promise (although it resembled independence day way too much) and was building up to an exciting finale, but wow did the ending ever suck. The aliens catch a cold and just croak? How lame is that? I was completely shocked when the movie ended. I felt like Spielberg just got tired of the movie and ended it.

If you thought this movie was so good then try to convince me! Or tell me I'm not the only one that thought the movie stunk!

It followed the premise of the book. Move on.

Okay so I got the response I thought I would get... the movie followed the book. Well I've got news for everyone then: the book sucks too.

The whole scene with the tripod that had all of the people trapped and stored for later was so meaningless once you know how the movie ends. While I was watching the scene i was excited about them getting inside the shields and blowing it up from within... they had brought one alien down with a single grenade after all the failed attempts of our military firepower. But did it really matter? Nope. That tripod and its alien operators would have died anyway, just a little later.

What can I say, I wanted the humans to be the reason that our planet wasn't seized by aliens, not some germs in our atmosphere.

Thanks for the "news" heres some news for you, HG Wells was one of the better writers of his time, and saying that a book that inspired many many of the alien movies/books since (including ID4) "sucks" is pretty damn ignorant to be honest with you.

And sorry that the movie wasnt another ID4 where the americans save the day but....well this movie actually had a point to it unlike that movie, sounds to me you like movies where its just humans vs aliens with a set outcome (they kill us alot, and then somehow we win) well this movie is using the aliens as a VEHICLE (gasp) just like in HG Wells novel, the aliens are just a disaster they are not the point of the book or movie, they carry the characters, the story, and ultimately the underlying messages that the movie/book was supposed to deliver.

And might i suggest you try reading something before you say it sucked? and i wouldnt count on that comment going down well around here either btw, and if you DID read it and still thought it sucked, well then id like to see you write a novel that inspired generations of future writers/producers, and wasnt just a random story, but had a message in it too.

Well, I guess you'll just have to learn to live with dissapointment. Have you ever heard the expression that it isn't the destination that is important but rather the journey. That's kind of the way it is here.

Somehow, though, I suspect you just registered this user name so you could flame bait. Oh well, better luck next time.

I liked the movie for the same reason I liked "Signs." It's telling a more deep and MEANINGFUL story than all the alien mumbo jumbo going on all around the characters. In the end, it is not the aliens, nor their deaths, nor their splendiferous weapons, nor anything else relating to out of this world encounters that is even the real point of the movie. It's about the people in these movies. It's about the characters they're portraying. It's about the lives they're living. It's about the fear they're feeling. It's about WHAT THEY GO THROUGH, which frankly, I believe is GENIOUS because it can have such realism and you can actually SEE people doing such things when something's out of their control. It's about what YOU or anyone else in the real world MIGHT go through if, if it's even likely, such alien invasions would ever take place.

Will people just automatically know what to do when aliens come and bombard our planet? Sure, maybe some will. But you can't deny that the odds of having mass hysteria and millions of people running around like headless chickens is much greater than having a bunch of know-it-alls who just conveniently discover how to obliterate alien life and then emerge victorious without a hitch. Not everything can be about explosions or alien chases or superhero soldiers outsmarting the aliens and thus, winning and cheering.

Face it, the people in this movie were SCREWED. We would not have "won" if it wasn't for something else threatening to the aliens' existence . We can't be so arrogant enough to assume that the only threat to anything in or out of this world is humanity, no matter how much other sci-fi alien movies like to shove such a belief down our throats. ID4 is great in its own exploding in-your-face sort of way, but not every movie is going to be just like that, thank GOODNESS. That's why this movie is a great one. It's different and has something more important to say other than "aliens are here to kill us and then get killed by the almighy humans."

My two cents.
