Scooper Milk Duds writes in something to tease us uber-fans of Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds (review #1, #2), which vaporized filmgoers this weekend and raked in a whopping $100 thus far. Duds writes, "I just saw an interview with Dakota Fanning on Larry King, who said there will definitely be a sequel to "War of the Worlds," 'I bet we do! I bet we do!' she smiled, as if knowing something, 'I can't wait. I don't know when it'll be, but it will be even scarier... this movie was so much fun. I love Tom.'" Take it for what it's worth, but I highly doubt Spielberg would ever return if a sequel were ever made.

by the way, I'm retarded.

With the way this version of WotW was, with the change it had from the book. I don't think it needs a sequel.

God i hope not.

If they do, i can guarantee it will never match this film, it can't, the message can't be repeated in a sequel after the invasion.

It would be some stupid sci fi in which the aliens return after thier first failure a million years later, only this time humans are flying around in reverse engineered mech warriors with death rays.

If thats what your looking for, go get some japanese Anime lol.

Anything is possible true, what isnt possible is speilberg working on it, as hes retiring and this was meant to be his last movie.

Chances are if anyone makes this movie, it will be medium to low budget, poor CGI and definately a pointless storyline (think ID4)

I would still probably watch it for comedy value, but nothing more (unless a miracle happened and it was good, :rolleyes .

I don't see how a sequel would work. The aliens are defeated. Unless it shows the family trying to survive the remaining Tripods, but they wouldn't have an shields or anything. I hope they do it, if they have a good enough story/

Lol ppl. i know wed all like more WOTW, but think about it, what could they possiby do in a sequel that would surpass or even match up to the original in a one off story like this?

Weve got crashed tripods, alien DNA, we know thier still out there somewhere in the universe true, but the invasion force is dead, any further tripods they have sent will die in the same manner as the previous, the aliens will need new machines, new tactics etc, and lets face it, that would take centuries considering space travel restraints.

So in the far far future from when the movie took place (btw if it was on mars a sequel would be alot easier lol, bet they didn't see that coming) humans have reverse engineered alien tech, heat rays and all that, weve got space ships, weve got biological weapons, etc etc blah blah smackety smackety.

Enter another wing commander movie most likely, maybe they could make it similar to the halo series, you know we go around fighting aliens in space, and then attack thier planet in the end (ID4 anyone?)

Whatever, as i said, it would be a completely DIFFERENT movie, with no underlying message or anything.

We couldnt appreciate the characters like in this movie because guess what, we don't live in the 31st or whatever century.

It would be basicly, another space war movie, or something along those lines.

Watchable, entertaining (if its got the cast and budget etc) but completely and utterly DIFFERENT.

Since WOTW wasnt as i expected this might be a major blow to the head unless they actually can show more action next time besides didnt they had a mini series of WOTW on TV where they can control human bodies or something?

Sequel? Hahahahaha. Why in the world would they make a Sequel, it would just be a dissapointment. WOTW was perfect on it's own it dosen't need a sequel, theres not much of a way to make one. We had already seen the Aliens we know how to kill them. What are they going to take the movie into space (we all know how those movies go). If they did make a sequel speilburg wouldn't return And Tom, well, i bet he would. Daykona, she better not return. WOTW really dosen't desirve a sequel it's good enough, why wont they just leave it be. Not every Movie that makes it in the Box Office needs a sequel. All these studios care about today is MONEY, Money, money they don't even care about the movie itself.

I'm not into turning this into a sequel whatsoever.

Still,
Think about it.. Perhaps they could return to the WOTW book version.
Martians landing, and then building their ships. Rather than how it was presented on screen.

Or, the plot could be what the Artilleryman in the book version described, as someone else mentioned on another thread:
The Artilleryman, a la post-traumatic stress disordered.. prophesied a society of free "wild" people, rebelling against Martians and their captured, trained people?
(sounds kinda Land of the Apes to me, now)

Eventually resisting, allowing oneself to be "caught" and taking over one of the machines, and turning their own machines on the Martians.

'kay, I must have too much time on my hands.

Another War of the Worlds would be just silly. I am definately not looking forward to it, even though Spielberg would definately not direct anything close to "War of the Worlds 2".

Why would they want to ruin a perfectly good movie with a sequel?

Not a great scheme, although it's possible. I doubt Spielberg himself would direct something like that...it also would have to have a completely made-up story line. Hollywood isn't in the habit of writing from scratch, mostly they draw on source material.

Ummm lol? since when? practically all hollywood movies recently are made up from scratch (or come across as such anyway), most of which are not very good, however a few good ones slip through every now and then, like this one.

Bumpity.

Interesting thread...

I think it is possible to make a WOTW2. The WOTW film was really tight & was totally confined around a family. The second film could open up the scope more & expand into a bigger setting. The film could be set in a massive city, instead of a rural/country environment. Also the army could have a more active role in the movie. (Similar to alien & aliens)

Speilbergs War of the Worlds movie also missed out on a few things that were in the book; Like the 'Thunderchild' battle ship. It would be sweet to see a battleship fight agains a few tripods!
Also left out are the following:
-The priest
-The artillery man
-The artillery men vs the martians
-The black smoke
-The thunderchild
-The fire that leaped from house to house
-The world belonging to the martians (it didnt really feal that it ever 'belonged' to the martians)
-The underground city (the artillery mans idea to start freash & build uderground)
-The red weed that engulfed everything (sure it was in the movie, but it wasnt as much as explained in the book)
-The harvester (sure the tripods harvested humans, but another type of machine was explained in the book)

At the end of Jeff waynes musical version there is an added bit where astronauts go to mars & have radio contact with Earth. The transmission ends & the martians launch another attack, then the CD ends. So im thinking that a second wave of Aliens could be on their way.

So this is how it could go. The second wave comes down in a large city like London or New York. The tripods go sick in the huge city. The final battle will be between the navi ships & the tripods & the aliens will win. The red weed spread worse & covers everything. The surviving people go underground to live.

I think it is possible anyways...
