Basicly, the whole million years ago thing isnt even fact, its the idea of some crazy old man with a shotgun.
Its quite funny how so many reviews have taken his words as fact, thier just the best guess of someone, guess being the operative word.
Anyway, theres been some theories on this, mine is simple, they know about us, they study us and for some reason they need our blood.
At what point is the planet most populated? now, exactly, perfect time, before we get too advanced to handle, but large enough to utilize, and the premise being that thier own arrogance and self confidence in thier superiority over all forms of life, was thier downfall in the end. |

dark knight 303 said: no because the crazy man with the shotgun had reason those thing were planted. they up from under ground the olny thing that came from the sky was the aliens to control the ships and they maybe need the blood to find out how humans can survived so long with so many germs and could they find a cure for them selves
....hardly worth replying to but i feel the need anyway.
Firstly get your spelling sorted out, half of that doesn't even make sense.
Secondly, how does that dispute anything ive said? i said he guessed, and he did, he doesn't know any of it is fact, and most of it is over exagerated by his fear, remember hes not a scientist, or a historian, hes just some guy, with a shotgun, whose had time during the chaos to contemplate the situation. |

i like your theory about wanting it populated for our blood...
but why did they need our blood?
why did the liquid come out of the tripod they blew up ...as if the creature was submerged....
but those things in the basement were not covered in anything?
I'm confused - it ended so abruptly and I don't get it - the birds? what was the birds? what was that spore?
I would think that they need our blood because, we are the most advanced life form on the planet, and as such, the best creature in thier view, for thier plants to adapt to first.
Also, i would think that they live in a protected enviroment, that fluid is very likely similar in the job it does to the fluid that a feotus lives in during the months of pregnancy, in that you can live in it, and it is an enclosed enviroment, safe from outside pests and bacteria (obviously not though)
The aliens that roamed about for a few minutes, were probably recalled because thier "Safe time" was up, and any further time in the atmosphere may have been dangerous to them.
The birds, Cruise was pointing out to the soldier that the birds were on the machine, this meant that the anti matter shield (atleast thats how it comes across, no matter can penetrate it) was offline, and was a signal that they could attack the machine.

now the pod - the plant pod at the end - what WAS it that brought them down or made them sick and why would that affect the shields?
Its debateable why this would affect the shields, but the idea i gather is that they eat this red weed, its thier source of nourishment, and when they ate it, they died from the same bateria that was slowly killing the red weed, during this perioud of dying, the shields went down, why this is so is strange because each tripod is (As far as we know) piloted by only 1 alien, if there was more (an awefully small space to fit more than 1 those little pods) then perhaps 1 died and it was in charge of shields, otherwise who knows, the pilot was in pain and lost concentration? barely able to control the tripod at the end of the movie, but one would think that shields would just have an On/Off switch lol, but evidently not. |

Well the tripods were partially organic with that tongue thing picking people out of the cages at random. So perhaps bacteria was killing the organic parts of the ship and making the rest of the ship malfunction.
It looked organic, but we don't know it was organic, and its doubtfull it was to be honest.
Why is it doubtful that it was organic? It certainly wasn't made of any synthetic material (It looked like it even had veins.) so I find it doubtful that it was inorganic to be brutally honest. THE BRIDE: It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it coming. When you grow up, if you still feel raw about it, I'll be waiting.
And with that apology, statement, and invitation, The Bride walks out the kitchen side door, leaving the little girl to her mourning.
Yeah I know my screen name sucks. |

Ok here's my theory to the whole movie.
It's never been said how far from earth the aliens live, so im going to assume they live 8 galixies away. They need to move to another plannet (overpopulation) and the closest one with a stable atmosphere is earth (Mars is no good, because it smells of cabbage). So they launch the tripods all the way here and they crash on the surface. Immidiatly (after the tripods touchdown), they send the pilots down in lightning bolts, and this takes millions of years (they live 8 f*ing galixies away and space travel is teedious). By the time they get there, the machines have been coverd by sediment and what not and the plannet has grown some humans and some bacteria ect. The aliens think nothing of it, because (aside from getting to use their wicked ass lasers they installed, as a precaution) they realize that the humans blood can actually help terraform the plannet (the crazy red weeds), in doing this, romoving something from the air like CO2 that the alien's system cant process but really doesnt affect humans (this is why the aliens came into the house...without a space suit... becasue they already terraformed above). What they diddnt account for was once the bacteria ridden blood ran through the tripods system, all the bacteria got into the little cracks and crevices of the super alien technology (unconcievable by man) and shut down the energy shields. With the energy shields down they started breathing in the CO2 and got sick and vulnerable. Then with a higher CO2 to Red weed ratio, the red weed starts to die and the aliens invasion was pointless.
Just posting this because I want all the skeptics to know WotW was the story of just one man, and his struggle through it. He's not supposed to know all the answers to why this invasion is happening. It's what sets this movie apart from movies like ID4, It doesnt get all caught up with the government and the little details. Just watch the movie for what it is, a mans struggle through a tragedy and how he matures. Dont think about it too much like I did.
*sorry about the horrid speeling and grammr |

Its doubtfull it was organic becuase of the unsymbotic relationship the aliens have with thier machines, they are very clearly seperate from them.
If they are not symbotic with them, then how do they control the organic aspects of the machine? not to mention how do the organic components survive thousands (or even a million or so) years underground and not decay? all other life from thier planet dies in our atmosphere, so its fairly certain that the organic components would die before even the red weed.
Perhaps its a plot hole, in which case they should never have had the sucking thing in the movie (i don't think they should have anyway, that scene only detracted from the movie, it was also the only scene that Cruise was heroic, and slightly out of character).
I'm going to have to settle for plot hole because that sure as hell wasn't a synthetic material. THE BRIDE: It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that I'm sorry. antimatter? LOL
if it was antimatter, annhilation owuld have occured between it and matter (on earth), instantly blowing up half the world. |

I didnt mean it literally lol, i meant it as in anti TO matter, not the actual anti matter than is the opposite to matter.
Maybe i should of called it the anti-stuff shield lol. |
