I dont understand how you can have a film that involves a heat ray, which should most likely melt humans, and have it be pg-13. what do you guys think the heat ray will look like when it touches humans? I mean is it gonna instantly make them ash like in blade/ light them on fire/or turn them into skeletons?

You know, I posed that same question not too long ago. I originally heard this would be an NC-17 rating down to an R rated cut. But Spielberg wanted it to be available to everybody and not just older people. I guess they won't actually show humans getting killed by the heat ray. They'll probably just show buildings getting blown up and people dying from that. It would seem really stupid to have a science-fiction horror film to be like that, but I'm holding out hope.

In the book though it described vividly people getting killed by the heat ray. Also talks about one guy who's body was wrapped around a pole. I was hoping they'd have that kind of stuff in the movie.

Key word: was...

But imagine though, hitting with a heat ray, would boil the skin, melt the body, very painful, very ugly death.

They'll just focus the cameras on the faces of those witnessing the horrors...and some guy off camera will scream loudly "I'm melting!!!"

Then, they'll cut to a smoking pile of ashes.

LOL

I think he's asking why it wouldn't be an R rated film. Which I would agree with him, to do this book justice, it should be R rated.

You're joking, but that's more than likely how it'll happen. That, or they just won't show humans getting hit by the heat ray.

Mars Attacks! was rated PG-13. It took a comical look at the alien invasion and the only gruesome scene I could think of is where they shot Michael J. Fox and she was holding onto his hand.

I don't know, you can get away with a lot in the PG-13 film.

What troubles me most these days is that they just assume someone 13 or older is now jaded enough that these kinds of things won't bother them or have any effect on them. And no, being numb to violence is not a good thing for young minds.

But this is a point-of-view I know is not shared here.

Lying on the web, it's just Photoshop or something.

Cool, eh?

I guess it explains the PG-13.

I think they can probably go all out with the heat-ray with the PG-13 rating.

Anyone remember that little scene at the end of RoTS? I think if they can get away with that, then some disintegratioin shouldn't be an obstacle.

I think PG-13 is agood rating for this movie, sure I would like blood and more violence, but I'm sure we'll see that in an Unrated DVD.

I was disappointed in Alien vs Predator, mainly for it's PG-13 rating, just hope they don't make that mistake with this one. But, it's Spielberg, I imagine he'll pull it off.

Ehm, all of the LOTR movies were PG-13 and they had their fair share of violence did they not? RotS is PG-13, we see severed people and that certain completely ravaged body at the end, so yeah...

Okay, let's see if this helps clear this issue up:-

-==CLARIFICATION FROM THE BBFC=-

.

No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD. Responsibility for allowing under-12s to view lies with the accompanying or supervising adult.

Theme
Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers.

Language
The use of strong language (eg ****) must be infrequent. Racist abuse is also of particular concern.

Nudity
Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet.

Sex
Sexual activity may be implied. Sex references may reflect what is likely to be familiar to most adolescents but should not go beyond what is suitable for them.

Violence
Violence must not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated.

Imitable techniques
Dangerous techniques (eg combat techniques, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on imitable detail or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Horror
Sustained moderate threat and menace are permitted. Occasional gory moments only.

Drugs
Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or instructional.
-------------------------
-------------------------
-

Sooooo basically you can do whatever you want in a 12A (pg-13) film, you just cant do too much of it.

Based on the above i reckon Steve should be able to do a pretty damn fine job all in all.

Life is Pleasant, Death is Peaceful, Its the Transition thats Troublesom.

i guess we will find out in 3 days if the violence was uncalled for

but there is a strong emotional level aswell (which wouldnt push the rating up..if anything, push it down)

Read an AICN reviews and the guy said he doesn't see how this didn't get an R rating...
You see people being ground up for the red weed, see them being harvested. You apparently see a river full of bodies and blood rains down from the sky. And apparently Ogilvy's demise is pretty bad but it leaves a lot to the imagination.
