If you have been following the production of this movie, you would know that its gone through hell and back (no pun intended). Originally, the film was to be directed by the late John Frankenheimer (Ronin) who later backed out due to back problems. And was to star Liam Neeson as Father Merrian, who also backed out of the film. WB asked Paul Schrader (Auto Focus) to direct the film with Stellan Skarsgaard (Good Will Hunting) as the lead actor. After the principle photography was finished the WB fired Schrader as director citing the film was not gory enough and was too much of a psychological thriller. WB later hired Renny Harlin(Cliffhanger) to refilm to whole movie, which is the one coming out to theatres in August. Although the WB thinks Harlin's version will do better at the box office, it plans to release both Harlin's and Schrader's versions on DVD. You heard right there might be TWO versions of the same movie on DVD. Between Harlin's action filled gore fest and Schrader's dark psychological thriller, which would you rather see? If both were to be released the theatres, which do you think would do better at the box office? I would think Schrader's version would be scarier, because the fear would be manifested in our own minds which is far more scarier than seeing it on screen. But seeing some head twisting, explosive vomit action would be nice to see also.
