Anticipation Level:
How excited (or not) I am to see this movie...
Well after seeing Pitch Black I was eager to see a sequel on the big screen, and then Mr. Diesels career kicked off. This either meant he wouldnt return to the B movie class sequel OR, the sequel would be huge. Well hearing the sequel was in the works as a huge multi-million dollar affair how could it go wrong? Well the monsters werent going to return, and neither was the Pitch Black it was going to be called The Chronicles of Riddick. I was hoping for an Alien style saga, but I was willing to wait and see if this was going to go anywhere.
Movie Review:
My thoughts on this movie...
Lord of the Rings in space thats what Vin Diesel has said. Well Id say Battlefield Earth crossed with Die Hard one man against an army, with all the odds stacked against him. However the dodgy odds werent all that was dodge the Necromongers!!! Who the hell came up with that mouthful and then there was all the other crap you have to listen to, and then the 5yr gap between Pitch Black and this and you just have to accept the bits in between. But hold on theres more more crap. The storyline is totally stupid, and to farfetched the Under-verse, the Fairians the list is endless. BUT this movie is a bold attempt, and is interesting to a certain extent. The action is endless and fast paced, with Riddick showing his art in death to the letter yet all the goodness this movie has (and there is a lot of good in Twohys vision), but there is an unbridgeable gap between what is on screen and the audience before it a gap that the story has wrongfully placed upon the audience to just accept and understand. No doubt that a trilogy will be made, and no doubt the Chronicles of Riddick 2 will be better, but I believe the pressure will be on to make the sequel to this more believable, and more compelling, because this is where the Chronicles of Riddick falters. I think for the Chronicles of Riddick to improve it has to go back to its roots back to the Pitch Black and the monsters it left behind on the planet Riddick was reborn.
