I loved the film, but there were some issues with it that the book better elaborated that I think should be included into an eventual Unrated DVD edition. Here are some scenes from the book that should be, in my opinion, included on the DVD.....beware, these are big spoilers:
1) At the beginning when the Lord Marshal comments on how beautiful war is, while looking down on a decimated world, and maybe add a Judy Dench narrative detailing who some of the main Necromonger players are, since they did not let you know who they were as well in the film. 2) Show the original UV planet concept with Riddick having killed some enormous alien creature and uses it's feet as boots to make tracks to mislead Toombs and his Merc's, overtaking them. 3) Add back in the vision Riddick has of the Furian female while in hyper sleep on his way to Helion Prime. 4) Show the senators of Helion Prime deny the existence of the supposed Necromongers and how Aman and Areon cannot convince them otherwise. 5) Show the second vision Riddick has of the dark hand which is the Lord Marshals, strangling thousands of male Furian infants with their own umbilical cords, leaving one lone infant (Riddick) alive and crying in the dark. This will better illustrate why near the end of the film, when the Lord Marshal sees that one of his Lensors has been murdered by the still alive Riddick, he instinctively pulls the umbilical from the Lensor and begins wrapping it around looking like he is about to strangle someone. 6) On Crematoria when Riddick is knocked unconscious and laying on the ground, the Necromongers soldiers begin to surround him and Riddick rises to his knees and unleashes his vast Furian power, killing those soldiers closest to him, and astounding Vaako. 7) The scene just after this when the Purifier saves Riddick and then explains the above mentioned murder of the Furian children and tells Riddick that he is the sole surviving child, the Alfa Furian, giving reason for his newly found powers that had just been unleashed on the Necromonger soldiers moments before, and telling him his part of the prophecy that says he will be the one to kill the Lord Marshal.
Here's hoping for the inclusion of these vital scenes in the DVD!
