I was really disappointed with the movie. There are so many good potential plots, twists and turns in the movie if only the producers followed through with them. I couldn't really understand why the one action scene that I thought was the best scene in the movie had no sound effects. It SUCKS! It almost looks like they ran out of fundings and couldn't pay for the sound effects for that scene. They could have at the very least added some sound effects to the weapons when they made contacts with other metal objects or something instead of just playing some really boring music in the background. Other things that bothered me: Really Minor Spoilers:
There was a scene where Riddick had tamed an animal, but then that was it. They should have made it where the animal would have helped Riddick and his team escape, attack the guards and so on, but nothing else happen down this line. The scene where the Elemental was introduce, but there was no background on her or her people. I wish they would have explore her background more by showing what others of her people may be like(Fire, Lightning, Ice, Water Elementals). The movie also lacks one-on-one fights. Riddick is supposed to be this badass who can dish out some serious whooping, but there were only two one-on-one fight scenes (the one in the beginning and the boss at the end). The one in the beginning lasted 3-4 seconds, and the boss fighting scene is okay at best. There were a lot more one-liners than one-on-one fighting scenes that I had paid to see Riddick dished out. The movie also showcased the Necro's second in command throughout the movie, and I was expecting this guy to show off his fighting prowess, but nothing happen. He didn't beat up anyone or was involved in any fights. He just shot one guy with his pistol, and that was pretty much it. I was expecting him to go up against Riddick at the end of the movie by the way the movie was prominently portraiting him throughout the entire movie, but noooooooooo. Nothing happen with this guy. There was a moment when another Furian was discovered, and I got really excited because I thought this person would help Riddick fight along side him, of course, nothing like that happened as well. But the thing that upset me the most is that I was waiting for this Riddick guy to show the world what a badass he was, and when that time finally came halfway through the movie, there was no sound effects - just some stupid song in the background. Lord of the Ring: TROTK did this too but it was so much more tasteful, meaningful in that movie. Unless they fix this by adding some sound effect to this scene when the DVD comes out, this will be the first action movie that I will not be purchasing during the past 3 years.
Maybe there will be a Director's Cut of the movie that will correct these problems. I am really hoping that this is the case, because what I have seen so far cannot be a great start for a franchise opener at all. |
