June 25, 2001 — May 15's Calgary Sun has Ivan Reitman confirming that The Pink Panther animated character will be a participant in the live-action movie as well and not just relegated to the title sequence. Reitman is modelling his film on THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER so its possible the Panther may be a psychotic delusion of Dreyfus (who will go insane once again). If, however, they go the Roger Rabbit route (like Gary Nelson's 1989 pilot THE NEW PINK PANTHER starring Charlie Schlatter as a wiseguy reporter who teams up with the animated Pink Panther to catch an arsonist), I think we're in trouble. The best news is that Reitman indicated that production could begin shortly. It was speculated that Myers would shoot AUSTIN POWERS 3 this year instead. In fact, upcomingmovies.com lists BIRTH with a probable relase date of 2004--so keep your fingers crossed for next year.
