June 7, 2004 — Weekend box office estimates are that on opening weekend, the third installment in the Harry Potter franchise made a whopping $92.6 million in 3,855 theaters. That beats openings from the wizard's prevoious films Sorceror's Stone ($90.3 million) and Chamber of Secrets ($88.4 million) and marks Prisoner of Azkaban the third highest 3 day weekend opening film behind Spider-Man ($114.8 million) and last month's Shrek 2 ($108 million). |
