I've noticed a lot of people here are also on the LOTR Countdown (As am I). I'm glad of that because some people, like my best friend, will refuse to read/watch HP b/c they're too "mature" or whatever. My dad is a big Tolkien fan and he still enjoys HP as much as I do, even though it's a "children's" book.

I don't know how interesting that was to anyone, but there you are.

I enjoy the HP series as well, Im currently on the 3rd year... My gf introduced them to me, I would never had read them until she made me...then I really started to get into it and liked it a whole lot...as for LOTR, ive never read the books, only saw + own the DVD, sooner or later im bound to but the trilogy and the Hobbit book to read. So, I dont think that HP is really just a childrens book...just a book for all ages

they are not childrens books. i'd say your friend is a little closed minded. my 49 year old aunt is SOO into harry potter. (though i must blame my 12 year old cousin for getting her hooked) my sister and i even bought her the LOTR books, but she won't read them because she doesn't like that it's a continuous trilogy and not ENOUGH like harry potter (meaning all JKR's books can stand on there own. my 73 year old grandmother is currently on the 4th book as we speak. we're one big harry potter lovin family. your friend just don't know what they're missin

Harry Potter is definitely for all ages. I'm coaxing my mom into reading the third book right now. She has work and stuff, so it's hard for her to find time to do extra stuff. She read "Sirena" in two days, though. As far as LoTR goes, I love it too. I just started (kinda) posting on the RoTK board, but I haven't read the books, so I can't contribute that much. I will read them eventually, I just don't know when

I'm a big LotR fan, too. Once in a while I'll check the Two Towers board but I spend most of my time here at the CoS board. Anyway, I used to be one of those snobs that thought HP was for kids only, I was a total LotR advocate. Then I broke down before the first HP movie (sorry to repeat this story to some of you who've already read it--like Rae ) and read the books. I became totally hooked! I even got 3 of my coworkers hooked on HP (of which I'm mighty proud of, I must say, and all are older than I am ). But both sets of books have the same fantastical, hero's journey theme, which I just love so much. Same reason why I'm such a Star Wars freak, too.

The wonderful, amazing, kind Faramir!

I'm in the second part of the Two Towers. It's getting...okay...? TTT is a very boring book compared to say, The Return of the King? It's like, the best book in history! I would advize everyone to read the books, I don't nesscessarily like it when people just watch the movies and never read the books.

I love the hero's theme, too, Lady Meg! The destruction of the One Ring, as in LoTR; Harry's vengeance, as in HP; and fighting the ultimate evil, as in Star Wars. Has anyone else noticed that almost every hero is male? Women have power too!

Which is why I love this quote from "Jurassic Park":

"Dinosuars, eat Man... Women enheirets the Earth."

dumber (dŭm-er) adj. Way below normal intelligence.

dumberer (dŭm-er-er) adj. Completely devoid of anything that even remotely resembles intelligence.

i thought you read the whole trilogy, and i used to think that the lotr books were boring and i forced myself to finish it when i was reading them for the first time,(b4 the movie) and to be honest i thought TTT was the most boring one in the trilogy, but i love all of them now, and im kinda obsessed with it btw, since you say you liked rotk better than ttt, did you read rotk before ttt????
