| My thoughts on this movie... |

| The first Shrek was great with hardly any of those "so stupid" moments. Sadly the sequel has loads of 'em. Donkey repeatedly saying "are we there yet" copying a Simpsons joke from 10 years ago. The huge gingerbread man (why and how), Jennifer Saunders (an English comedienne) getting an oddly large amount of screentime in a Hollywood movie as a frankly unfunny character. Puss in Boots is famous for slaying ogres yet he clearly hasn't killed one in his life. Lots of potions smashed abd destroyed yet fairygodmother gets told "all but one" are ok. Shrek looking just as ugly when human yet all the girls fancy him. When donkey took the potion dragon would have changed as well.the king gets turned into a frog and the queen is ok with this. Fiona believing that Prince Charming is Shrek. John Cleese not getting one memorable joke. Dragon having babies-shes 200 times the size of donkey how did they do this (obviously just a badly thought out excuse to have dragon out of the movie for most of the running time yet she remains the most exciting character). Fairygodmother singing "I Need A Hero" for no reason they should have just used the actual song. Why take two hugely popular characters and change their appearance for a large portion of the movie?i know its just a film but that doesnt alter these facts. In my humble opinion however, its just no longer original and the characters are desperately running out of steam. This is not to say there was nothing I liked. I did. Except i had seen them all out of context in the trailers and they seemed funnier out of context, and throughout the whole film I kept thinking "its a sequel its a sequel its a sequel..." They say they had 4 Shrek movies planned from the beginning. I dont think so. What I think is that once the first Shrek became a success, the makers all went "cha-chiing!!" Oh, and the animation itself wasnt ALL that much better than Shrek. Finding Nemo for example is far more visually impressive. Shrek 3D however is awesome! |
