A big announced for today's 25th anniversary celebration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - the heroes in a half shell are returning to the big screen!

Variety says that the Mirage Group, which owns the property, is moving forward with a live-action film focusing on the origins of the iconic crime fighters.

The project, targeted for release in 2011, would mark the fifth big screen outing for the sewer-dwelling heroes Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael as well as their master Splinter.

Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer Scott Mednick is producing the new film alongside Galen Walker, who produced the 2007 computer-animated TMNT. Peter Laird, Gary Richardson, Frederick Fierst, Eric Crown and Napoleon Smith III are executive producing the film, which is based on the characters created by Laird and Kevin Eastman.

Laird said the film will remain true to the spirit of the original comic books. He added that the film may employ face replacement technology, which would allow the turtles to be much more expressive.

The 2007 movie was ok, but sounds like they know what they're doing now. Bring back the Shredder, tell a propper origin and have it set at a darker tone, in the vain of the comics, could be great.

My top movies of 2009

1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
2. Star Trek
3. District 9
4. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
5. Transformers 2
6. Terminator Salvation

10. Bruno
11. Wolverine
12. Friday 13th
13. Monsters Vs Aliens
14. Angels and Demon's

So this means someone can actually get hit with ninchucks now? I'm really glad another movie is coming. I don't have a problem with the pure CG movie except for the quality in every scene wasn't as great as that fight in the rain between Ralph and Leo. In most of the other fight scenes I could barely tell what was going on. A Live action movie mixed with a lot of CG for the turtles is something at least i've been waiting for. I think with a decent script with a little less comedy and some great action could really be the thing that could make this franchise huge again. I really hope it turns out great.

Hollywood really needs to get over two things when dealing with well-known franchises:

1. Origin. Got it. Been done, move forward.

2. Re-boot's. JEEZUZ, get over it just keep moving forward. You could make a TMNT movie without it being a sequel or reboot by not disavowing anything previously seen or acknowledging it either way. It's like when a new artist or writer comes on a run of X-Men or something. Characters get replaced, costumes get changed, and storylines get dropped, but we're not starting over from scratch or ignoring any of the past!

I've been here since 2000 and have undergone six-seven personas, but I am still me...Tiffany, I love you.
