A.I. American
Sweethearts Working
Girl
GUMBEL: What?
CLAYSON: I saw "A.I." yesterday.
GUMBEL: Oh, yeah?
CLAYSON: Yeah.
GUMBEL: Talk to me.
MARK McEWEN (Meteorologist): She says it was good.
CLAYSON: It's a really great movie. It's a really, really great
movie. It's Stanley Kubrick--sort of a classic Stanley Kubrick film,
but it's got a Steven Spielberg soul, which is a great
combination.
McEWEN: Oh, I like that.
CLAYSON: I--yeah.
GUMBEL: Really?
CLAYSON: It's very, very good.
GUMBEL: Is it...
CLAYSON: Audrey was crying, though, I mean, like, half the
movie. I couldn't--she was, like, 'Waah.' She was a total
mess.
JULIE CHEN (Anchor): And Haley Joel Osment, he makes you
cry?
CLAYSON: Haley Joel--oh, my gosh.
CHEN: He's so good.
McEWEN: He's so good.
CHEN: He's so good.
GUMBEL: Really?
CLAYSON: He's in every scene. I mean, he is the movie and he
s--is--if--if he is as good 10 years from now, it--is now...
GUMBEL: Is it scary?
CLAYSON: He is such a talented kid.
GUMBEL: Is it scary?
CLAYSON: Nope.
GUMBEL: No?
CLAYSON: Mm-mm.
McEWEN: You know what's great about Haley Joel Osment? When you
meet him in person, he's a kid.
CLAYSON: Yeah.
McEWEN: You know, he's not, 'Hello, nice to meet you.' He's
like, 'Hey!'
CLAYSON: That's right. He's like, 'Hey, how are you?' He's got
a baseball cap on.
McEWEN: He's just a--yeah. That's right.
CLAYSON: Yeah, it's very--it's a techno movie, but not so that
you're sort of disinterested in it.
GUMBEL: Huh.
McEWEN: Plus, it's got a...
CLAYSON: It's very good.
GUMBEL: I'd like to see that.
McEWEN: I can't think of his name right now, but the
gentleman...
CLAYSON: Sam Robards.
McEWEN: No, the one who was in the--the sniper movie, he was
also in "The Talen"--Jude Law, who I think is very good.
CLAYSON: Jude Law, yes.
CHEN: Oh, yes.
GUMBEL: He's good.
CLAYSON: Yes.
McEWEN: He's very good.
GUMBEL: You know what I want to see--separate? I want to see
"Jurassic Park III," which looks wonderful.
McEWEN: Yeah.
GUMBEL: I also want to see "Fast and the Furious." I know it
looks like a stupid movie...
CHEN: Who's in that?
McEWEN: Well...
GUMBEL: Vin Diesel. Your guy Vin Diesel.
CLAYSON: Oh. Yeah, I like him.
CHEN: Oh, I've seen him promoting it on the cover of Time
Out.
GUMBEL: Right?
CLAYSON: Yeah.
GUMBEL: Yeah, I mean, it looks--it--it really does look like a
stupidmovie, except for when you see the trailer, there's enough
stuff in there that you go, 'Yeah, I'd like to see that.'
CHEN: Trailer's like--What?--like lots of fast action
and...
GUMBEL: Yeah, yeah, a lot of--a lot of good action, a lot of
fast stuff. And you know me, I don't like cars, but this stuff--they
make it seem fairly interesting.
McEWEN: This is the same person who "Coyote Ugly" was in his
top 10 of last year.
CHEN: Yeah.
GUMBEL: No, it was not in my top 10.
McEWEN: Top 20?
GUMBEL: No, it wasn't.
McEWEN: You said you liked it.
GUMBEL: I said it--no, I said it was a better film than you had
been led to believe, and it was not the kind of film that you had
been led to believe it was.
McEWEN: Which was--and you liked it.
CHEN: Right.
GUMBEL: It was not a T&A film. I thought it was a cute
film.
McEWEN: OK.
GUMBEL: I thought it was a cute film. It was not a T&A
film, you know.
McEWEN: OK.
GUMBEL: But there's some good ones coming out now.
What?
CLAYSON: When is--when is "Ocean's...
CHEN: I was...
CLAYSON: I was going to say, I keep asking about "Ocean's
Eleven"...
GUMBEL: "Oceans Eleven"? That's a long way off.
CLAYSON: ...but I am really, really dying...
McEWEN: I don't think this year, is it? I don't think it's this
year.
GUMBEL: I don't think so. I think that's a long way
off.
CLAYSON: You know what is
coming up is "America's Sweethearts"--"American Sweethearts"?
McEWEN: Yeah. I'm seeing that Friday.
GUMBEL: What is that?
CHEN: It's out Friday. Oh, no. I've seen the
commercial.
CLAYSON: I'm seeing it Friday, too.
GUMBEL: What is "American Sweethearts"?
CLAYSON: It's with Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones and
Billy Crystal is in it, too. It's supposed to be quite good.
CHEN: And John Cusack. And he picks good movies.
CLAYSON: And John Cusack.
GUMBEL: I like John Cusack.
CLAYSON: Yeah, he's good, too.
CHEN: He picks good ones.
McEWEN: I love John Cusack. I do, too.
GUMBEL: Yeah, he's wonderful.
McEWEN: Big, tall drink of water.
GUMBEL: You know, I wish his sister did more work.
McEWEN: His sister's funny.
GUMBEL: I like her, too.
CHEN: She has her own TV show, right?
McEWEN: Did they...
CLAYSON: She--that's--that's shot in Chicago, yeah.
McEWEN: Has--is that on now? I know it was on. Did they pick it
up? I think it's on.
CLAYSON: She has a family, she has kids, she just had a baby,
she--she's got a life.
GUMBEL: Yeah.
McEWEN: Did you ever see "Working
Girl" where she says to her...
CHEN: Oh.
McEWEN: ...'Sometimes I dress up like I--I bought--with
underwear on an dance in front of a mirror, doesn't make me
Madonna.'
CHEN: You know, I love her line when she goes--going through
Sigourney Weaver's closet, she goes, '$ 800 and it's not even
leather.'
McEWEN: Yeah.
CHEN: So funny.
McEWEN: That's a great movie. "Working Girl."
CHEN: Funny.
McEWEN: Very funny lines all through that.
GUMBEL: All right, if somebody asks you what's your quirkiest
film that you think none of us have seen, your favorite film?
McEWEN: Quirkiest film?
GUMBEL: Just a--just a little film that you think nobody else
has seen.
CLAYSON: I hate it when he does this.
CHEN: You first. We can think.
McEWEN: You haven't seen this one. A quirky little film that I
think is brilliant is "Searching for Bobby Fischer."
GUMBEL: I saw that one. I saw that one.
CLAYSON: Who's in that?
McEWEN: I love that movie. Laurence Fishburne's in
that...
GUMBEL: I like--I like that.
McEWEN: ...Ben Kingsley's in that...
GUMBEL: Joseph Mantegna.
McEWEN: Right. What's her name who was Pat Nixon--Joan Allen is
in that.
GUMBEL: I like her.
McEWEN: And the little kid is just a chess kid who's not an
actor, who's never been in anything else.
GUMBEL: He's wi--the biggest eyes on the planet.
McEWEN: He's brilliant. It'll make you cry every single
time.
GUMBEL: It's good movie.
CLAYSON: Wait--Bobby...
GUMBEL and McEWEN: (In unison) "Searching for Bobby
Fischer."
CLAYSON: "Searching for Bobby Fischer."
CHEN: "A Little Romance" with Diane Lane. Very old movie. It's
so cute.
GUMBEL: Oh, yeah? You ought to see "The Nephew," with nobody
you'd recognize. Maybe Pierce Brosnan, that's all.
CLAYSON: Oh, you don't like Pierce Brosnan.
GUMBEL: But you ought to see this movie. I don't like him as
James Bond.
CLAYSON: Oh, OK.
McEWEN: It's no "Coyote Ugly."
CLAYSON: All right.
McEWEN: Yeah. |
