October 6, 2002 — Red Dragon earned an estimated $37,480,000 million for the weekend box office, a healthy return, but falling well below the $58 million Hannibal took in over opening weekend last year. Sweet Home Alabama fell to second place with $21.6 million, and now stands with a 10-day total of $65.6 million. The weekend's only other new wide release, Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie, opened solidly at No. 6 with $6.5 million. The Tuxedo was No. 3 with $10.1 million for a total of $28.1 million.
